What is it that makes the Birkin so lusted-after? Well, part of it certainly has to do with its careful craftsmanship. But there’s more to it, too.

It’s Hollywood’s fashion darling.
The celeb world has taken a serious shine to the Birkin. It’s said that Victoria Beckham (a.k.a. Posh Spice) has a collection that’s worth over 1.5 million pounds – that’s over 2 million U.S. dollars. Though not all collections are that extensive, the bag is certainly not a stranger to paparazzi sightings.

It’s a pop-culture phenomenon.
The bag is frequently referred to in movies and on TV. And did I mention there’s a whole book about what it takes to snag a Birkin? It’s safe to say that the bag has solidified its place in pop-culture lore.

It’s proof that good things come to those who wait.
Getting your hands on a Birkin takes a special kind of devotion. The (now defunct) waiting list was known to be as long as five years, meaning if you wanted a bag you’d have to really want it. And as they say, you always want what you can’t have.
