ELLE Editor's Selections: Resort

We must admit, even though winter’s chill just officially set in, we’ve been daydreaming of jetting off to the tropics for a while now. We sat down with Editor Sydney Wasserman to fulfill our island craving with her take on all things Resort.

Rue La La: What trends from this season’s Resort collections are you most excited about?
Sydney: I love the idea of mixing different prints in one bold outfit. It takes a keen eye to be able to clash prints without looking like a clown, but when done right, it’s so chic. I also like the look of a high-waisted short suit – it gives off the air of a high-powered jetsetter. And I can’t forget this season’s color craze: neons.

Rue La La: How have Resort collections evolved over the past several years?
Sydney: Resort has certainly become a predominant season with its own story and look. I think Michael Kors summed it up best when he observed that while Spring and Fall set the trends, Resort is the wardrobe that will be in a woman’s closet.

Abercrombie & Kent Expeditions

We were blown away when we saw the itinerary for Abercrombie & Kent’s Antarctica Expedition: dropping in on penguin rookeries, exploring glaciers, feeling the mist from the spouts of humpback whales, and absorbing the breathtaking beauty, history, and geology of this continent. A&K’s Vice President Bob Simpson chatted with us about packing, exploring, and what to expect from a trip that combines adventure with learning.

Rue La La: We have to ask – isn’t Antarctica freezing?
Bob: Well, these two expeditions are happening right at the peak of the Austral summer season – relatively speaking, it’s really pretty mild, and can actually be warmer than some temperatures in the Midwest in winter.

The Breakers Palm Beach

Down to earth
Contrary to what you may think, a vacation is great to take with kids. The key to making this happen: Choose a destination and accommodations that are age appropriate. The Breakers is such a classic, established hotel that doesn’t immediately scream “kid friendly,” but once we were there I was pleasantly surprised. The staff goes out of their way to ensure that people of every age feel comfortable and welcome. Extensive thought was put into creating an environment with a space for everyone to relax – alone or together.

Sandals Luxury Included Resorts

Memorial Day, the unofficial start to summer, is nearly here. We welcome the return of outdoor barbeques, sky-high wedges, and one of my favorite aspects of the summer – love! We all know summer is officially the height of wedding season. It’s the time of year when beautiful brides don the dress and grooms get spiffy in the suiting of their dreams to walk down the aisle. But once the “I Do’s” and dancing are over, the true party starts when the happy couple whisks off to a dreamy destination for the trip of a lifetime: The Honeymoon.

Imagine jetting off to a place where you don’t have to lift a finger because the British-trained butlers anticipate your every need. Where you’re invited to indulge in gourmet fine dining and fruity top-shelf cocktail concoctions. Where you can take in the turquoise water under a thatched palapa, or spend your time snorkeling and sailing (all without having to pawn your vintage Chanel bag to pay for it). So whether you’re getting hitched or just in desperate need of a romantic getaway, I’m a big fan of the hotspots Rue La La is offering in their Sandals Luxury Included® Resorts Boutique – opening today!

We’re big fans of indulgence, and the idea that indulging can actually do good perked up our ears. Charitybuzz brings together the most wholly original and utterly luxurious offerings, all in support of some of the causes that matter most. We’re so excited about our Shop for Good – charitybuzz Boutique (opening tomorrow!), and we jumped at the chance to get a moment with charitybuzz CEO and co-founder Coppy Holzman.

Rue La La: Where did this drive to “do good” originate?
Coppy: It began with my childhood and the priorities given to me by my family. My mother just died this past Thursday night after a long illness, and I am more motivated than ever to follow the legacy that she gave me to make a difference in the world.

Land Rover Driving School

It’s every adventure’s dream: to get behind the wheel of a rugged Land Rover on an action-packed obstacle course. And with Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and graduation right around the corner, making this (not-so-dangerous-after-all) dream a reality is the ultimate present. We sat down with a seasoned Land Rover driving instructor to get the scoop on what this day of driving is really like.

Rue La La: Say we buy dad a turn at driving school. What could he expect?
Josh: All of our lessons are customized for the guest. We teach a thought process. That is the best way to learn a new skill. Make it fun and you have the student hooked. We take beginners who have never been off road and make them confident behind the wheel. We also work with experienced drivers who haven’t been off road for awhile. Our school is almost like a driver’s education for off roading.
