Would You Wear This? FENDI’s Furry Friends

Every few seasons or so, the fashion gods – ahem, Karl Lagerfeld – get together to test us. You know, to prove that we still bow down to their brilliance. Remember Chanel’s ankle packs? Yeah, like that.

Snag Your Own Fendi Bag Bugs While They’re Hot

I’ll be the first to admit that Rue associates like to dive headfirst into some strange trends. But these latest accessories from FENDI – each with its own name and personality – seem more like something swiped from a Tim Burton set than a runway. The wonderful truth of fashion, though, is there will always be someone willing to try anything.

So, as New York Magazine: The Cut writes, “brace yourself for waves of these little companions to start dangling off the arms of the street-style mob come February.”

Bravo, Karl. You got us again.

Skip the Falsies: Try This Lash-Thickening Trick

At first glance, this is admittedly a little freaky. Reminds me of the 90s when the inner-lid eyeliner was all the craze. But don’t panic – we’re not getting that close to our contact lenses this time. Tightlining, sometimes called “the invisible eyeliner,” is characterized by full, thick lashes and achieved through a subtle application of eyeliner.

Eye Can Do It: How To Tightline

How to apply? “Key to mastering tightlining is pulling up your eyelid slightly and then depositing pigment not above or below your lashes, but straight on them, so that you fill the ‘gaps’ left by the growth of your individual eyelashes,” writes New York Magazine: The Cut.

The trick is to appear as if you’re not wearing any eyeliner whatsoever. While I don’t suggest practicing while sitting in traffic on the way to work, tightlining can be an effective technique for adding definition to your eyes – in a super sneaky way.

Visit The Cut for a full GIF tutorial on tightlining.

Rock This Country: Taylor Swift Wins Best Dressed at the CMAs

Last night in Nashville, country-music folk gathered in celebration of the genre’s greatest twang. The top dresses? Well, everyone’s talking about Taylor Swift’s crimson number.

“Taylor picked out a stunning Elie Saab couture dress with a sexy — but not too sexy; no Miley is she — open back,” says New York Magazine‘s The Cut. “Her regal styling, perfect red lip, and flowing skirt are perfect, and make us wonder if she’s hoping this is a recipe for romance.”

As much as I rebel against Taylor’s two-cord repertoire of whiny number-one hits, I have to agree. It may even top her crystal-clad Hervé Léger gown from this year’s VMAs. She’s no Whitney Houston, but the girl can pick out a dress.

Check out The Cut’s full review of the CMAs red carpet here.

I Came for the (Free) Dinner: Is Dating for the Food Immoral?

Everything tastes better when it’s free. Or, at least, that’s the motto New York Magazine: The Cut’s latest person of interest lives by – a 24-year-old broke Toronto woman who uses dating sites for the sole purpose of snagging herself free dinner.

According to her Tumblr, Erin Wotherspoon joined “a slew of dating sites to find a man, any man, even a woman to finance [a] delectable venture into the maze of Toronto’s hottest resto nabes.”

Now, maybe it’s just me, but – seriously? Get a job.

Don’t get me wrong. Free is lovely, and I will continue to gladly accept the office-provided Halloween candy that sits in front of me as I type and the occasional boyfriend-gifted Malbec. But the idea of serial dating with the sole purpose of racking up free foie gras and oysters at the city’s “hottest resto nabes” (not a real word – I already Googled it) is, above all else, unfair.

It’s no better than saying, “Hey, I’m looking for marriage,” when you really want a one-night stand. And it only helps to perpetuate the age-old notion that a woman’s livelihood depends on a man.

Which makes me worried for the growing number of today’s singles who seek to find their soulmates on reputable dating sites like… Tinder.

Rebecca Minkoff Learned the Hard Way: It Doesn’t Pay to Have a Messy Office

Did you have any idea it was possible to get fined for having a messy workplace? Me, neither. At least not until today, when I found out the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) slapped Rebecca Minkoff with a whopping $77,000 fine for just such an offense. OSHA told New York Magazine: The Cut that Minkoff’s space was ”overcrowded and congested with boxes, rolling racks, workstations, chairs, equipment, storage and other materials.” OSHA apparently acted after receiving complaints from (former?) employees.

To me, Minkoff’s space sounds like it could belong to any fashion company. Good thing OSHA has never been invited to a Rue La La Employee Sample Sale

We Couldn’t Have Said It Better…

New York Magazine: The Cut, on Kate Middleton’s impending baby bump reveal:

We Couldn't Have Said It Better

It’s no secret that we adore Kate Middleton (and her style, of course). And the duchess with some signature Beyoncé fierceness mixed in? Um… yes, please.
