It’s official. Crochet clothing is going to be big this spring – but unlike in past seasons, it’s meant to be more refined than boho-looking. So, to make sure we’re pulling off the 70s-inspired trend in a polished way, we turned to our fashion director, Jackie, for a few tips.

Gianni Versace popularized black and gold chain-link prints in the 80s. Today, they’re making a big comeback in every color imaginable. And they’re easier to pull off than you think – just follow the three tips below.

The 411 on Chain-Link Prints

  1. Go easy on the accessories – your print should do the talking.
  2. Stick to one chain-link piece per outfit as to not overwhelm.
  3. If you’re petite, go for small links. Tall? Try a larger pattern.

As a product of the 90s, I couldn’t help the nostalgia that ensued after spotting butterfly motifs at Paris Fashion Week (see also: Mariah Carey). While the Spring 2014 trend popped up mostly in hair and makeup, the real star of the show was Jean Paul Gaultier, whose entire couture collection took flight. He even told Vogue, “Life is a butterfly! So all the collection is that!”

A glimpse of this top trend brought me right back to a time when boys didn’t exist, but braces did – and on a scale of 1 to 10, you were only as cool as the number of butterfly clips on your head. Which means? You can consider this my nostalgia-sick pass to opt out of trying the trend this season.

But not before you check out Vogue for more Gaultier from Paris Fashion Week.

Backpacks are back – and we’re loving it. But the $3,400 canvas graffiti backpack Chanel debuted on September’s Spring 2014 runway? Well, we’ll let you decide.

(Under full disclosure, we totally would have traded our JanSports for it back in the 90s.)

Sure, trends come and go – but if the collections at S/S 2014 NYFW taught us anything, it’s that there are a select few fads that have serious staying power.

Just check out these six fashions from last season that, according to the runways, will be back big time next spring.
