Jewel-tone hues are making a comeback – in a big way. Pantone, the leading authority on color trends, has ruled emerald as the color of the year for 2013, and we can’t wait to start incorporating it into our closets. Here’s how:

Start small. Try mixing the color into your accessories first. A pair of teardrop earrings, a statement necklace, or an eye-catching bracelet (like the one above) boasting the shade will automatically boost your day-to-day wardrobe.

Contrast. Pair this tone with different textures (think wool and silk or chiffon and leather) and other complementary shades, like navy, for a look that makes a statement – but not too loudly.

Make it your basic. Opt for this rich color instead of reaching for your go-to white V-neck the next time you feel like dressing down.

Dress it up. Say goodbye to your favorite LBD and show up to your next cocktail party draped in this lush tone.

Switch up your shoes. Now would be the perfect time to swap your standard black pumps for a pair of emerald suede heels (sky-high encouraged).

Clutch it. Nothing inserts a pop of color into an outfit like a unique bag. A metallic leather clutch in this rich shade will add an unexpected touch to an otherwise toned-down blazer-and-heels ensemble.

Cozy Knits
“You can wear a cozy knit with everything,” says Alexandra. Dress it up with a cashmere cardigan or down with an oversized sweater. (I love the oversized look with a pair of dark skinnies.)

Silk Blouses
A feminine fall staple, a silk blouse not only feels indulgent, but is also the perfect transitional piece. Easy to layer, it works with skinny jeans on the weekend or with a pencil skirt at work. “I’m all about blouses with tiny prints,” Alexandra says.

Leather
We’ve been obsessing over leather all season, but Alexandra assures us it’s the right attitude to have. “It’s my number one must-have. You need to invest in a good leather jacket,” she says. “You can wear it over jeans, with flats, or over a dress.” Versatile, indeed.

Loafers
“Penny loafers are back!” says Alexandra. “And I especially love them in a metallic.” The menswear-inspired styles are both comfy and casual, making them a perfect shoe for morning commutes and fall foliage excursions.
