Sequins, formerly a creature of the night, are transitioning into the light of day. That’s right – it is now more than acceptable to flaunt your flashiest pieces during the workday.

Just in time for all of the glitz and glitter that goes hand in hand with the holiday party circuit, here are the best ways to wear sequins during the day:

Tone it down. You don’t want to look like RuPaul breezing into the office. A top with a sequined front and cotton sleeves and back adds just the right amount of sparkle and shine to an everyday outfit.

Offset it with something casual. If you opt for allover sequins, pair the embellished piece with a nondescript counterpoint. Try throwing chambray or a plaid button-down on top of a gold sequined skirt. The contrasting fabrics will be eye-catching while still looking put together.

Upgrade your staples. No need to disregard your go-to pieces to accommodate this trend. Try rocking a sequined blazer with a simple tee and dark denim to update a classic look.

Bare basics. This is one fashion scenario where the idiom “less is more” definitely applies. If you want to nail this look, make sure to keep everything else simple – including your makeup. Skip the eye shadow and opt for just a touch of mascara and blush instead.

Own it. The only accessory you need to pull off the daytime sequin look? Confidence. Embrace the sequin trend unapologetically and shine on.
