Seen On & Off the Runways: Men’s White Sneakers

The white sneaker has graduated from grade school. According to the New York Times, these classic kicks were a recurring trend at this month’s men’s fashion weeks, all the way from the models’ feet down to the front-row audience.

But unlike grade school? These are white leather, not canvas. And they’re a whole lot more versatile. In Milan, Giorgio Armani’s menswear collection, “Echoes of Armani,” showed them with classic, tailored suits. Also, Gucci’s collection paired white sneakers with every color, pattern, and type of suit. London’s Alexander McQueen put a modern twist on this happening trend with printed graphic suits, combining British tailoring with an urban approach.

Off the runways? The white sneaker adds a more finished and tailored look than your everyday running sneaker. Josh Peskowitz, the men’s fashion director at Bloomingdale’s, claims he’s “been wearing them a lot more than expected.” He rocks them with formal suits and everyday outfits, on both sunny and rainy days. Jian DeLeon, the deputy style editor at Complex, even went so far as to pair a plaid suit with white sneakers out to the ballet (how bold).

Feel free to wear them with (almost) anything in your closet, from casual Friday to lazy Sunday. But for how long? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if white is here to stay.

Instant Inspiration: 5 Pinterest Boards We Can’t Get Enough Of

A Tuesday roundup of our recent Pinterest obsessions

Fashion is our thing. So, we obviously have love for the models that wear the clothes so well. Here are the catwalkers 2013 is all about…

1. She’s the face of Mulberry and the apple of Karl Lagerfeld’s eye. Plus, she has some of the best eyebrows we’ve ever seen. Cara Delevingne is It (with a capital “I”).

2. We were fans of Suki Waterhouse before we discovered she was Bradley Cooper’s rumored girlfriend. But it’s safe to say we liked her even more after we found out.

3. Sure, she’s only 5’7″, but with parents like Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, Georgia May Jagger was destined for the catwalk regardless of her height.

4. Jourdan Dunn is getting noticed for more than her pretty face. She’s on a mission to demand more diversity in the fashion world. And we’re into that.

5. She has hair the color of skittles, and by the looks of her Instagram, a killer personality to match. Chloe Norgaard, you rock.

Instant Inspiration: 5 Pinterest Boards We Can’t Get Enough Of

A Tuesday roundup of our recent Pinterest obsessions

We can’t stop talking about (and looking at pictures of) New York Fashion Week. And Pinterest is only perpetuating the problem.

1. With so many people rushing around, it’s important to know who’s who.

2. Runway makeup is reimagined every season.

3. That moment when you realize street style is almost competing with the collections.

4. These shots make us feel so much closer to the front row.

5. Only the best of the best? Don’t mind if we do.

Calvin Klein Spring Preview

Hurricane Sandy may have delayed the Calvin Klein Spring 2013 Preview by a few weeks, but the show (make that presentation) went on as planned at the end of November and was – as always – an event to remember.

Last year marked the debut of the ck one color cosmetics line. This time around, the focus was squarely on the clothes, denim, accessories, and underwear.

Models posed prettily amid a structure billed as “a modernist house constructed of black frames,” which was “filtering light and casting shadows within a pure, all-white setting” while guests walked around enjoying tumblers of OJ and breakfast nibbles. The black frames reminded me of very chic prison cells, especially in conjunction with the bunker-like benches and graphic, black-and-white stripes (a huge trend for spring) worn by many of the models.

There were also a lot of 007-worthy pale grey suits and short-sleeved button-downs (for the gents), as well as colorblocked trousers and painterly print separates (for the ladies). Pale denim; sleek swimwear; chunky, heeled sandals; and handheld, fold-over bags completed the picture.

Worn beneath everything, of course, was Calvin Klein’s famous underwear, including the new Calvin Klein Concept line constructed from seamless, high-tech performance fabric.

On the way out, instead of the usual goodie bag, guests were offered their choice of a cropped denim jacket or a pair of sunglasses. Calvin Klein for everyone!
