Since we’re always looking for ways to pump up our wardrobes here at Rue La La, we decided to give it a try. (But we didn’t limit it to clothes – since we welcomed additional odds and ends, we called ours the “Stuff Swap.”)

While not as mobbed as our infamous sample sales, the Stuff Swap proved to be a success. The majority of the goods were clothing and accessories, but there were some hidden little gems, too. Where else can you find a The Muppet Show DVD set, kitchen canisters, and leopard print thank-you cards in the same place?

And the best part? In the end, everything that wasn’t nabbed by a Rue employee was packed up to be donated to Goodwill. Scoring new clothes and benefiting charity – what’s not to love?

Red Dress
This little number has the same versatility as an LBD, but with added have-to-have details. (If you love the cutout look, this is up your alley.) Throw this frock on for any can’t-get-out-of-bed Friday and transition (sans bathroom change) from desk to drinks.

Leather Mini
The leather skirt may be a then-and-again trend, but this straight shape is a classic, making this buttery number a long-term investment.

Whatever the size or shape of a room, a rug can bring it to life – or result in a decorating disaster. You can change the furniture, paint the walls, and re-accessorize each season, but a rug seems to be the one thing that endures – which is why we roll them up once a year and start from scratch (the wine stains have nothing to do with it). So, before you make your decision, make sure it’s just right with this fail-safe size guide and a few helpful tips. Then, get shopping.

Assess your space
Furniture, floor, walls, room size – these are all things to consider before choosing a rug. For instance, bold, patterned rugs reduce the appearance of space, giving large rooms a cozy, inviting feel, while solid, light-color rugs make smaller rooms look brighter and more spacious.

Visualize the rug
With masking tape, create a border on the floor where you would like the rug to lie. Make sure the amount of bare floor between the rug and the furniture/walls is even to ensure balance.

Be realistic when it comes to your lifestyle
“Going green,” allergies, or small children? These are all things to consider. Additionally, a plush white carpet may look pristine and feel cozy underfoot, but when it comes to upkeep, it’s a bear. Find a middle point between aesthetics and easy maintenance. You’ll thank yourself later.

From private jet trips to cross-continental adventures, our Ready-to-Give Gifts Boutique has the last-minute presents of a lifetime. The only problem? Plain old white envelopes are no fun under the tree. Choose one of these fun and festive wrapping solutions and strike awe in every giftee even before they discover what’s inside.

1. Bury it in a jar of candy or in a tray of chocolates.
Place the voucher in an envelope, hold it upright inside a Mason jar, and pour your giftee’s favorite candy (jelly beans, Skittles®, chocolate kisses, etc.) over it. Seal the jar, wrap the lid with ribbon, and put it under the tree. Similarly, pick up a gourmet tray of chocolates and place the voucher inside the box (or tape it to the bottom). They’ll never see it coming.

2. Attach it to a helium balloon.
Nothing will catch their attention like a bundle of floating balloons. Use a hole punch at the office and swing by the party store on your way home.

3. Frame it.

5. Hang it from the tree.
