It’s about more than being trendy. I’m a firm believer it should mirror your personality, too. So whether you’re a hopeless romantic or a go-with-the-flow type, peep the best prints, colors, and shapes that will convey your character at first (stylish) glance.

The Total Classic: They’re called classics for a reason. LBDs, seamed sheaths, and asymmetrical silhouettes can carry you from day to night effortlessly.

The Romantic: Soft tones, sweetheart necklines, and floral prints? Just style with a simple clutch and classic flat sandal, then let date night commence.

The Modernist: Chevron prints, colorblocked minis, and bold stripes will put you on the fashion front lines.

The Queen of the Evening: Floor-length gowns, intricate detailing, and dress-up fabrics like silk and chiffon will have you red-carpet ready in no time.

The Glamour Girl: For your next night on the town, break out the fitted, the sequined, and the (oh-so-sultry) bold hues. Paint the town red.

The Free Spirit: All you need to achieve the hippie-chic look? A high-low hem, breezy maxi, or tie-dyed print.

Before she was the object of a million girl crushes, we knew Jennifer Lawrence as that blonde bombshell in red at the 2011 Academy Awards. It was her first Oscar nomination, and instead of going the expected route of ultra-glam starlet, Jennifer was surprisingly laid-back, leaving her hair down in beachy waves and keeping the accessories to a minimum.

It’s a look that totally stuck out in my memory. And even better – it’s 100% re-creatable for us non-red-carpet folks. Here’s what you’ll need:

The obvious place to start? With that gorgeous red dress. And we have it here, in our Calvin Klein Collection Women Boutique, opening Wednesday, March 20, at 11AM ET.

My biggest takeaway from the 2013 Oscars? The backward necklace is taking Hollywood by storm. Worn by both Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway on the big night, this trend is definitely one to try.

While it may seem intimidating – red-carpet spotlight and all – it’s actually really easy to slip into your accessories routine. As I see it, there are two differing approaches.

Go for the wow factor.
I love a bolder necklace paired with a V-cut back. The necklace slips right into the backline, perfectly complementing the shape and adding some seriously unexpected bling. Go with an updo for this look – with accessories like this, you’ll want to show them off.

Keep it simple.
A delicate chain is a lovely addition to a dress with a simple back. Jennifer Lawrence opted for this look with a straight-backed gown, and the result was a subtle draped effect. Hair up or hair down – this look is understated enough that it works with both.

Awards season is officially here, and after last night’s Golden Globes, it’s safe to say it started with a bang. While the night’s top moments belonged to Les Misérables, Ben Affleck’s Argo, and one very glittery Jodie Foster, let’s be honest – the red carpet was the real star of the show. Here are some of my favorite looks:

Claire Danes: The Homeland star looked gorgeous in a bold red Versace gown. Totally flattering and structured in just the right places, this gown made the brand new mom one of the best-dressed of the night. (And yes, you heard right – she’s just a month removed from giving birth.)

Anne Hathaway: Before picking up the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award, the Les Misérables star arrived in a sparkling white Chanel gown. The sleek, slim-cut shape was femme without frills – a perfect counterpoint to her pixie cut.

Jessica Alba: Perhaps one of the forgotten best-dressed of the night, Jessica Alba showed up in a strapless coral number and a blingy statement necklace. I loved the coloring – with her complexion, she pulled off that coral easily.

Kerry Washington: It’s not hard to make the Django Unchained star look beautiful, and when she opted for a neutral Miu Miu & Chopard gown, she reminded us that sometimes simpler is in fact better. Shimmery embellishments and some saucy sheer accents upgraded the straight shape, making the simple gown into something eye-catching.

Some other favorites: Taylor Swift looked surprisingly grown-up in a purple Donna Karan Atelier gown, Olivia Munn aimed for understated in a Giorgio Armani number, and Julianne Hough went all-out with cascading gold studs. After an ultra glamorous night like this, there’s only one thing to say – awards season, I missed you. (Only 41 days until the Oscars!)

Last night marked the official start of awards season, and the stars of the small screen were out in full force. Amid the glitz and glamour that the red carpet is known for, there were a variety of looks that caught our eye. (Claire Dane’s yellow Lanvin number had us speechless.) But she wasn’t the only one drawing attention, according to Beauty High:

For the 64th Annual Emmy Awards we saw a lot of different trends on the red carpet, from neutral nails highlighted on E!’s Mani Cam to nude lips, smokey eyes, and a whole lot of big, tousled hair. While various shades of yellow, burgundy, and seafoam ruled the dress trends on the red carpet, we had our eye on who was doing what in terms of beauty.

Our favorite looks? Julianne Moore was absolutely stunning, from head to toe. Allison Williams of HBO’s Girls practically glowed in her emerald ensemble – we loved her bold eyes and relaxed updo, too. And, of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Zooey Deschanel and her amazing television nail art.
