Behind (almost) every A-list celebrity, there’s an A-list stylist who scours the runways for the most coveted pieces. Case in point: every single Rachael Zoe client. So while we patiently await TV’s biggest night, we’re taking a look back at some of 2014’s best dressed – and hoping for repeat greatness.

Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli Couture Emmys 2014The Unconventional Ball Gown
The chicest princess we’ve ever seen? Fact. The Girls starlet owned the red carpet in Giambattista Valli Couture. Simple, yet full of impact (that colorblocked bodice!), this pick won her fashion darling of the evening.

Claire Danes in Givenchy Emmys 2014The It-Girl Outfit
First worn in white by Kim Kardashian at her wedding, this Givenchy dress made headlines for the second time when the Homeland actress donned it. True, she doesn’t need any further accolades, but we give her major props for making the ensemble, complete with a beaded dragonfly collar and lips to match, all her own.

Jessica Paré in LANVIN Emmys 2014The Old Hollywood 2.0 Dress
Sure, we’re already missing Mad Men, but we’re excited to see what’s next for the former Mrs. Don Draper. With an easy Old Hollywood vibe, her LANVIN version of the classic LBD was to D.I.E. for. And her sculptural necklace? The icing on the cake.

Matt Bomer in Tuxedo Emmys 2014The Classic Tux
A (fashion) curveball can be refreshing, but we’re always onboard for the traditional. This Chuck actor proves all you need is a fresh cut, shined shoes, and a little black and white to turn heads.

The night’s not even close to over yet, but we’re already rounding up some of the biggest fashion trends at the Academy Awards (we couldn’t help it, and really, can you blame us?). Check out a few of our favorites below.

What's Trending on the Oscars Runway

1. Nontraditional Tuxes
It’s true – gowns always get all the Oscars attention. But so far, this year’s menswear is certainly giving starlets’ dresses a run for their money. From Matthew McConaughey’s and Jared Leto’s crisp white tuxedos to Pharrell Williams’s jacket-and-shorts pairing, 2014 men’s formalwear has been anything but boring.

2. Neutral Gowns
Pastel gowns were a big bet for this year’s red carpet, and while Lupita Nyong’o did go with a gorgeous powdery blue, neutral hues have otherwise been stealing the show. Cate Blanchett opted for a “heavy” nude Armani Privé number, Naomi Watts went with a white Calvin Klein gown, and Charlize Theron wore a curve-hugging black dress.

3. Chic Umbrellas
In the days leading up to the Oscars, the red carpet was so soaked from the nonstop rain in L.A. that it actually had to be squeegeed. Thankfully, the rain seems to be holding off right now, but for those who arrived earlier during the evening drizzle, umbrellas were a must-have accessory.

Sure, we’re in the midst of holiday madness, but before you know it, awards season will be upon us. Mumblings of Oscar contenders have already begun. Cate Blanchett. Sandra Bullock. Jennifer Lawrence. But what’s even more exciting? The gown predictions.

Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2014 CollectionImage via

Personally, my money’s on Zac Posen’s pre-fall collection. Let me rephrase that: I’m praying celebs will choose these pieces.

Done up in rich satin with dramatic old-Hollywood silhouettes and strong sculpted details, his floor-length confections belong on this year’s red carpets. Are you listening to me, JLaw? This will probably be the only time these words come out of my mouth, but leave the Christian Dior at home. At least for one red carpet.
