Calvin Klein Collection designer Francisco Costa breathed a sigh of relief when Lupita Nyong’o’s now-famed Oscar gown was found over the weekend. The pearl-encrusted stunner, reportedly worth $150,000, was swiped from the 31-year-old actress’s West Hollywood hotel a week ago.

But the drama doesn’t end there – the dress is allegedly made from faux pearls. The brand’s reaction? “Once it’s returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand.” Smooth move, CK.

This time of year it’s easy to rely on a less-than-exciting uniform. I often step out in skinny jeans and a classic blouse or sweater. But a statement accessory – a feminine extra like an animal print or a string of pearls – can elevate your tried-and-true ensemble to an anything-but-basic look.

Most Coveted Statement Accessories

1. RED Valentino Bow Clutch. Leopard print is equal parts provocative and sweet in this bow-shaped silhouette.

2. Stella & Ruby Tassel Necklace. Choose a simple dark-hued or jewel-toned top for a contrast that will let these pearls shine.

3. Balenciaga Paris Eau de Parfum. With notes of violet and cedarwood, this French fragrance is both lovely and mysterious.

4. Dior Satin D’Orsay Pump. Don’t just save these for special occasions. These stilettos add just enough glam to dress up dark skinnies and a black crewneck sweater.

There’s no doubt: The Great Gatsby is on the must-see list this summer. But before the film premieres, I’m determined to throw a party in honor of its coveted 20s style. Bold, glamorous, and provocative for its time – no wonder it’s making a comeback. But before those invites go out, a costume is in order, and it’s coming together via these embellished accessories.

  • Pearls. And not just one strand. Pile these staples on. Wrap them, knot them, let them drape down a sequined dress. You can’t go wrong.
  • Rich color, bold geometric shapes, and lavish design. Yes, we’re talking Art Deco. If it’s not radiating from your outfit, infuse it with smaller touches like an elaborate cocktail ring or rhinestone clutch.
  • From shoulder bags to T-strap sandals, look for tasselsbeading, and, of course, fringe. Nothing defines the Roaring Twenties like these over-the-top accents.
  • Your hair will undoubtedly be pinned up in chic finger waves. Which means spottable-from-across-the-room earrings are essential.
