RUE LA LA LEAD STYLIST PARTICIPATES IN A BOLDFACERS POP-UP STORE AT THE W HOTEL, BOSTON

Boldfacers

We’re not always psyched when things “pop up” on our to-do list out of nowhere, but this stylish surprise was one we weren’t opposed to clearing our schedules for. On Thursday, January 27, Boldfacers hosted a Stylemakers pop-up store at the W Hotel in Boston. Imagine a room full of racks, each bursting with clothes from sixteen of Boston’s most fashionable tastemakers (most with tags still on, we must add). The experience was like raiding the closets of some of our favorite local style icons, and we walked out with our hands (and bags) full of amazing finds (our style writer scored everything from a vintage cocktail ring to a flowy bohemian dress).

AN INTERVIEW WITH JOSH WILSON, RUE LA LA PROJECT MANAGER

Ciclismo Classico

We always prefer the scenic route. So in preparation for our upcoming Experience from Ciclismo Classico, purveyors of bike tour vacations in foreign locales, we sat down with our very own Josh Wilson, who recently toured Tuscany with the company, to get a taste of his experience.

Rue La La: How is traveling on a bike different from, say, a bus tour or cruise?
Josh: This is a much more personal and hands-on experience. You are slowly riding through the countryside so you take in the smells, sights, sounds, and people in a way that you can’t in a bus.

Rue La La: We love getting around on our bikes, but… what kind of intensity are we talking about?
Josh: The average route for our tour was about 40 miles per day and included one or two challenging climbs. There’s flexibility built in each day – those who want to do more miles and see more of Tuscany can break off from the main pack and do an extra loop. It’s a great opportunity to ride faster and climb harder and I looked forward to them each day.

One part of Fashion Week that has stayed with us (other than the unforgettable spring/summer collections) since Lincoln Center in September are the beauty trends we saw both on and off the runways. More often than not, the makeup on the models is the last ingredient to bring each designer’s collection to life, and one that inspires our day-to-day beauty routine. We’ve pulled three of the most prominent makeup trends off the runway so you can pull them off in real life.

RUE LA LA STYLIST MAUREEN TACKLES THIS SEASON’S BIGGEST QUESTIONS
Fall Fashion

One of Rue La La’s very own stylists, Maureen, dishes on how to wear this season’s must-haves.

Q. How can I look fun and flirty but not silly at age 40?  – Julie C.
A. Just because you’re 40 doesn’t mean you can’t be cute and flirty! But when you reach a certain age, some of the sexier trends can look like you’re trying too hard, so err on the side of caution when dipping into trends like leopard or leather shorts. Why not try a fitted, skinny cigarette pant paired with a pretty, tucked-in blouse? That look can be very flirty yet sophisticated. Or, try a rich jewel-tone feminine skirt with a cashmere top. And heels always add a touch of fun and confidence to any outfit.
