OK, so we’ve already discussed most of Fall 2011’s major trends here on the Rue La La New York Fashion Week blog series and during our Facebook Live Chat on Thursday (to recap the biggies: the color red, layers, long skirts, black platform booties, statement coats, ‘90s/grunge influences, and lots and lots o’ fur).
In addition to the above, hats had a starring role on the New York runways this week. And while there were all sorts of toppers on display — berets, turbans, furry trapper hats — the style that got the most play and looked freshest to my eye was the wide-brimmed floppy hat and its distant cousin, the fedora. At the House of Waris presentation, jewelry/scarf designer (and actor) Waris Ahluwalia debuted his Fall 2011 jewelry collection the Museum of Arts & Design to a crowd that included Chloë Sevigny, Tory Burch, Angelica Huston, Olivier Zahm, Suzy Menkes, Amanda Brooks, Inez and Vinoodh, Arden Wohl, Tara Subkoff, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Elise Overland, among others.
The jewels were displayed in cases throughout the room, and the scarves were worn by models (who were otherwise naked, save for bikini underwear). Ooh la la!
Lauren David Peden has been hired by Rue La La for her reporting at New York Fashion Week.
OUR VERY OWN D. GRAHAM KOSTIC REPORTS LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER
We’re taking you into the tents and behind the scenes at Lincoln Center for an exclusive look at New York Fashion Week. Get an inside peek at some of our favorite runway shows, celebrity interviews (including the Fashion Informer, Lauren David Peden), and so much more.
We’re all about destination glamour and transporting our customer to a location. And every season, I design collections based on two inspirations: a muse and a place. For Fall 2010, I was inspired by Jackie O. and her years in New York City.
One part of Fashion Week that has stayed with us (other than the unforgettable spring/summer collections) since Lincoln Center in September are the beauty trends we saw both on and off the runways. More often than not, the makeup on the models is the last ingredient to bring each designer’s collection to life, and one that inspires our day-to-day beauty routine. We’ve pulled three of the most prominent makeup trends off the runway so you can pull them off in real life.
We’re beyond thrilled to welcome our favorite New York City girl, Whitney Port, back on Rue La La (did you catch her chatting live on Facebook today?). To celebrate her upcoming Whitney Eve Boutique, we asked the starlet to dish about her favorite NYC hotspots. From getting pretty to grabbing a slice of pizza, Whitney gives us an insider’s guide to shopping her city – very, very chicly. Continue reading “Whitney Port Shops NYC” »
We’ve regrouped after the scene that was New York Fashion Week in Lincoln Center, and we’re marinating in the trends for spring (which we’ll start playing with right now). Here, a recap of some of our favorite moments from fashion’s big week.
