BLG-1536 Pinboards We Love

It’s road-trip time. From Boston to Phoenix, behold: a collection of inspiration for your next weekend getaway. Pack the car, turn on some tunes (“Hot town, summer in the city…”), and make way for the highway.

1. Chicago is the place to be when temps soar. Catch a game at Wrigley Field, then cool down in Lake Michigan.

2. Walk The Highline, shop Brooklyn Flea, and go on a pizza tour? Please, take us to New York. Today.

3. Nothing says summer quite like palm trees set against the sunset in Miami’s South Beach.

4. Had enough humidity? Head to the dry heat of Phoenix. Canyons, cacti, and local flavors, like green chili sauce and jerk chicken.

5. And finally, visit Boston – our hometown – for North End cannoli, Newbury Street, and the breezy Public Garden (along with its tulips and swan boats).

Rancho Valencia tennis

After months of working out indoors (thanks but no thanks to this never-ending winter), I’m more than ready for some outdoor activity. Topping my list? Hitting the tennis courts, of course. And this month, I’m feeling even more inspired to pick up a racket and serve away. Why? The Sony Ericsson Open. Below, peep the details on this must-watch tennis tourney.

What it is: The Sony Open features the top men’s and women’s tennis players in the world. Other than the four Grand Slam tournaments, this is one of the only events on the Association of Tennis Professionals calendar where the main singles draw involves more than 64 participants and extends beyond a week of play. It’s become a “see and be seen” destination – featuring high fashion, celeb-studded musical performances, and some seriously enviable shopping opportunities.

Who participates: Some of the biggest names in the tennis world – everyone from Andy Murray to Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.

Where to watch: The 2013 Sony Open is happening now, March 18 – 31, in Miami.

Tickets are still available, but if you’re in for a different kind of escape, how about watching from the acclaimed California tennis resort, Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa? Who knows – after you work on that serve, maybe a spot in the Sony Open 2014 is in the cards.

Our Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa Boutique opens Tuesday, March 19, at 3PM ET. Both the men’s and women’s finals are broadcast live on CBS.

Rue Miami

Ocean views. Endless palms. Sultry everything. Rue Miami is here, giving you insider access to the best local spots in the city. To celebrate our Miami debut, we sat down with Kristin Catasso, Director of Brand Partnerships for Rue Miami, to talk all-out shopping crawls, Marilyn Monroe’s Miami cameo, and what to do when the spring breakers flood into town.

Rue La La: Everyone knows that Miami’s style is distinct. How would you describe it?
Kristin: Lots of vibrant colors. Plus, open-toe shoes and white all year long, because you can.

Rue La La: Which five stores are essential for an all-out Miami shopping crawl?
Kristin: The Webster, where you can sip champagne or wine while shopping, the Bal Harbour shops for those high-end European designers, Big Drop for the haute hippie look, Brown’s Apothecary for skin and hair products (you can also get a great mani/pedi there), or do it up big at the internationally-known Aventura Mall.
