When a new apartment building in Manhattan has a penthouse nicknamed “the Don Draper apartment,” it’s safe to say Mad Men is now an entire lifestyle concept. And we want in.

The apartment building, currently under construction near the High Line in Chelsea, was designed by prestigious architect Zaha Hadid. The building’s futuristic design holds no resemblance to the mid-century aesthetic of Mad Men, but naming the apartment after the show’s lead character appears to be universally accepted shorthand for “stylish.” The 6,391-square-foot apartment boasts five bedrooms and a balcony. But most impressive is the extensive 2,297-square-foot deck – ideal for getting your tan on during the day and hosting cocktail parties with an impressive view at night.

The final season of Mad Men premieres tonight. So let’s take a moment to wax rhapsodic about the series that’s been making waves since it first aired in July 2007. The emotional creative pitches. The smoking, the drinking, and the sex. And yes, the oh-so-dapper style of Don Draper and the whole Sterling Cooper crowd. The show may be in its final stretch, but the influence of its classic suiting? That’s not going away anytime soon. Here’s how to make that Mad Men–inspired look work for you.

How to Dress Like Don Draper

The Suit: Keep it dark. Charcoal, navy, or black if you’re going all out. Always pair with a crisp, white shirt. And add a sharply folded pocket square if you’re feeling extra dapper.

The Tie: Don’t get too trendy. Stick with classic diagonal stripes or a geometric pattern. Make the look fresh and current by picking a bold, punchy color.

The Shoes: This is where you can really put your own stamp on the ensemble. Keep your kicks classic with a twist. Leather oxfords with colored soles or laces. Derbies in high-shine patent leather.

Most importantly, remember – you can still be your own man. Pick up a hint of that Don Draper vibe, but don’t turn into a literal carbon copy.

Okay, “lands” is a stretch. I’m going to go out on a limb and say this HBO actress skipped the rigid interview process. But I digress. The annoyingly adorable character you know as Shoshanna (or that girl who licked Peggy’s face in Mad Men) is writing a bimonthly column for Glamour titled “My Zo-Called Life.” And she gushed all about it on Chelsea Lately this week.

Fashionista quotes Mamet, “[My editor] will get e-mails from me at like 4:00 in the morning and I’ll be like, ‘I wanna write about the evolution of eyebrows.’” Who wouldn’t?

Fact is, Shosh could write about drywall and we would still skip lunch to read it.

The hit AMC period drama, Mad Men, has caused quite the stir in the fashion world – for obvious reasons. From the clothing and accessories to the hair and makeup, every little detail looks like it was plucked right out of the 1960s. So whether you’re channeling your inner Betty Draper or you have a love for anything retro-inspired, here’s how to work the look (cat-eye shades and all).
