Spotted on the Street: 3 Boot Trends to Try Now

No doubt there are as many eyes on the sidewalks during fashion month as there are on the runways. And one of the biggest draws for street-style photographers? Shoes. From New York to London, the style elite have been flaunting fall’s must-have boots: over-the-knee stunners, dressed-up moto styles, and cutout booties. Here’s how to work them into your wardrobe.

Cutout
From sporty caged styles to color-blocked pointed toes, there is a cutout for every mood. Opt for a strappy, colorful stiletto to complement a menswear-inspired trouser or amp up a simple shift dress with chunky-heeled, open-toe bootie.

Over-the-Knee
One of the sexier boot silhouettes, OTK also serves a dual purpose as one of the warmest. Suede, heeled, or flat – the extended height is ideal for experimenting with a short hemline and textured tights. Go for a sultry look with a lace-up version (just don’t be surprised if the cameras follow).

Moto-Inspired
You already know the power of a low-key moto boot, but the latest iterations are anything but simple. With studded bone-white leather and mixed chain detailing, designers are reinventing this perennial off-duty-model favorite. Let this trend do the talking stomping and keep the rest of your outfit classic – think boyfriend jeans and a chunky sweater.

Shop these and more sidewalk boot trends in our Street-Style Star: Rebecca Minkoff Boots & More Boutique, which opened Thursday, September 18, at 11AM ET.

Go Green: Stella McCartney Debuts Eco-Friendly Capsule Collection

Recycling, carrying groceries in cute totes, and biking around town are all chic ways to lend Mother Nature a hand. But this week, eco-conscious designer Stella McCartney took going green to a new level, showing an entire capsule collection of sustainable dresses at London Fashion Week.

Dubbed the “Green Carpet Collection,” the line mixes abstract water-based ink prints with seventies-inspired wood-heeled shoes. And the clothes weren’t the only green designs at the launch – her presentation at the Royal Institution of Great Britain used reclaimed film props, including shrubbery from the set of Les Misérables.

If this is the direction eco-friendly fashion is headed, then I’ll definitely tip my hat to Stella, known for her company-wide commitment to sustainable materials, as its very chic pioneer.

Travel Trivia: 5 Out-There Facts About London

Pardon us. We – like the rest of Us Weekly–reading humankind – have gotten so wrapped up in baby George‘s public debut and the Duchess’s incredible post-baby body that we’ve lost track of some of the other things that make London tick. Like these five quick and completely non-Royal facts.

Travel Trends - London

  1. Covent Garden is a spelling mistake. The area used to be the market garden for a convent.
  2. The street-style label seen most during London Fashion Week was Zara, hands down.
  3. Waterloo Bridge was built mostly by women.
  4. The Underground doesn’t always travel underground, and the Overground doesn’t always travel – you guessed it – above ground.
  5. There are more than 300 languages spoken in London – more than in any other city in the world.

Chitter Chatter

From runway jams to the FLOTUS’ style evolution, here’s what we’re buzzing about this week

BLG-1292 Chitter Chatter 2-25

Watch: Supermodel Coco Rocha bust a move for Longchamp’s SS13 campaign video. And we thought her runway strut was impressive.

Check Out: The First Lady’s style evolution. While a lot has changed (from her bangs to her brows), we think she looks perfectly presidential in both.

Hear: The top ten tracks at London Fashion Week. With these jams on our iPods, the sidewalk is our catwalk (or so we like to think).

Own: A piece of fashion history. Ten of Princess Diana’s most iconic dresses will be up for grabs at the Kerry Taylor auction house on March 19. Just be prepared to shell out some serious dough.

Tell us what you’re buzzing about this week or tweet us at @ruelala.

Going, Going, Gone Viral: Harlem Shake on the Runway

Everyone is getting on the Harlem Shake bandwagon – but we certainly didn’t expect model Cara Delevingne to bust a move backstage at London Fashion Week. While her version is definitely noteworthy, we still can’t get our minds off the UGA Swim & Dive team’s underwater version
