Kate Moss, Flashing Cameras, and the Jackie Bag

As if we couldn’t get enough of Kate Moss this month, Gucci has named her the leading lady in its latest campaign. In the clip, the 40-year-old supermodel dodges paparazzi while donning the Fall 2014 collection’s iconic Jackie bag – something I feel she’s done before, a time or two.

The one-minute film begins with Kate exiting a black sedan, cycling through a series of 60s-inspired outfits from the Italian house’s Fall 2014 collection. Accompanied by an extremely handsome man, she makes her way through an airport with the Jackie Bag, a favorite accessory of Jackie O (and appropriately named after her). The famous carryall was resurrected in 2009 by Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, who chose Kate as the muse for this short film based on her free-spirited, trendsetter attitude.

Is the star of the show Kate the Great? Or is it the historic, soft leather hobo hanging from her arm? Either way, grab the popcorn. This is an ad well worth the watch.

Initial It: Burberry’s New Fragrance Gets Personal

Today, Burberry unveiled its new customizable My Burberry fragrance with an accompanying ad campaign featuring British supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne.

Shot by the legendary Mario Testino, the television and print ads feature the models in the brand’s iconic Sandringham trench coat, marking the first time Kate and Cara have posed together. “It felt like we were making something special. It’s so exciting to see it come to life now,” Cara said about the campaign.

The label’s new signature fragrance, created with contemporary perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, represents the brand’s classic trench coat and captures the essence of a London garden after the rain. And its “My Burberry” name isn’t just a cheeky moniker. Those who purchase the 90-milliliter eau de parfum can personalize the glass bottle with up to three initials, further fueling monogram obsessions everywhere.

The campaign also has a digital side. Customers have the ability to preview a giant replica of their monogrammed bottle on select billboards in London and New York via their smartphones. Not in either city? No worries. Just personalize a bottle and share it on your news feed.

With the holidays fast approaching, this fragrance is sure to be at the top of every perfume enthusiast’s wish list. (Hint, hint, Mom.)

Most Coveted: A Peek at This Week’s Boutiques

By Nicole Andrew, Rue La La Fashion Editor

Modern femininity requires a finely tuned mix of sophistication, sex appeal, and a little bit of edge. Present-day incarnations of Brigitte Bardot come to mind, like Kate Moss and Julia Restoin Roitfeld. This week’s picks channel these three elements – all you need to pair with them is a noir-heavy wardrobe and a touch of leopard. (And great genes don’t hurt either.)

MOST-COVETED_91

1. CÉLINE Mini Luggage Tote. Tap into your feline side with this leopard-print tote.
2. Rivka Friedman 14k Earrings. Dramatic earrings are an easy way to glamorize your look.
3. Trina Turk Leather Skirt. Add a bit of edge with leather statement pieces, like this perfectly fitted pencil skirt.
4. Casadei Pump. Swap out classic pumps for this high-impact pair with cutouts and gold heels.
5. L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Hand Cream. Keep your hands feeling soft with this shea butter cream. The travel size is perfect for your purse or desk drawer.

Because I’m Happy: Models Smile for Fall Campaigns

Kate Moss for ELEVEN PARIS. Cara Delevingne for Burberry. Gisele Bündchen for Sonia Rykiel. Along with impeccably cozy style, this fall’s fashion models are sporting a parade of toothy grins – a welcome departure from the stoic, cold stares perpetuated by the 90s heroin-chic movement.

Perhaps it has something to do with Pharrell Williams’s insanely catchy tune. Or maybe big-name designers simply want to appear more approachable? Either way, I like this changeup. Bring on the happy.

Raise Your Glass: Kate Moss Celebrates 25 Years in Fashion

She’s dominated fashion spreads for a quarter century. And now? Kate Moss is toasting to her success with a champagne coupe molded from the shape of her bust. The British supermodel partnered with posh London restaurant 34 to create the personalized glass.

A little bizarre? Maybe. But it’s been done before. Rumor has it, the first champagne coupe ever made was modeled on Marie Antoinette’s left breast, which British artist Jane McAdam Freud used as inspiration for Kate’s modern version.

“I was excited to participate in this project…what an honor to be alongside Marie Antoinette – she was a very intriguing and mischievous character,” Kate said. “Champagne is always associated with celebration and happy occasions and I had fun creating this beautiful coupe.”

Come October, Kate will launch the creation at 34 and its sister restaurants The Ivy, Daphne’s, and Scott’s. As if I needed another excuse to book that trip to London…

Is Kate Moss’s Little Sister the Next Big Thing?

Ahh, to be a Moss. It seems like everyone in that family has won the genetic lottery. Take Lottie Moss, for example. It was announced yesterday that the 16-year-old half sister to Kate would be following in her iconic sibling’s footsteps by signing on with Storm Model Management.

Lottie, who stands at just 5’5″, first generated buzz at age 13 when magazines got their hands on a picture of her in Kate’s wedding. Whether she manages to make her mark on the fashion world à la her big sister (and she has some serious competition, with models like Cara Delevingne out there) remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure – the girl will be gorgeous no matter what she does.

Fashion Recap: The British Fashion Awards

Fashion’s finest turned out for the British Fashion Awards last night. And while some brought their A-game, others completely missed the mark. Pixie Geldof, I’m looking at you. That stuffed-animal clutch (if that’s even what it was) is cringe-worthy.

Alexa Chung, on the other hand, wowed in a Stella McCartney mini, passing the British Style Award baton off to Harry Styles (talk about staying true to your name). Sienna Miller stunned in an emerald Burberry number, but it was the debut of her new rose-gold hair that really stole the show. In love.
