Duchess-Inspired Style: Get the Look with Tips from Our Fashion Director

It’s no secret that the Duchess of Cambridge has some serious style. But her put-together polish isn’t just reserved for royals. Here, our fashion director shows us how to recreate Kate Middleton’s refined look in three easy steps.

  1. Start with a fitted sheath in a neutral or pastel hue.
  2. Keep accessories minimal. A simple box clutch and diamond studs will do the trick.
  3. Step into a pair of nude patent heels to tie everything together (the Duchess swears by them).

Kate Middleton Cuts Ties with Her Hair Stylist

Okay, so we all know that using Facebook and Twitter while on the job can be a major no-no. But rumor has it that Kate Middleton’s hair stylist, James Pryce (the guy who gussied her up for the Royal Wedding and her big North American tour) learned this the hard way. Pryce apparently has been booted from Middleton’s beauty squad after using images of the Duchess to promote himself online. Needless to say, the Palace was not pleased.

Pryce, you’re welcome to do my hair and post on FB, though. Just saying.

Red Hot: Stylish Celebrity Couples We Love

iStock_000003951574SmallWhile we love to hypothesize about the romances of our favorite celebrities (looking at you, Taylor Swift), there’s one thing better than the cycle of makeups and breakups in the spotlight – the fashion. These stylish lovebirds are always on our best-dressed list:

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen: A Brazilian supermodel and an NFL superstar with runway good looks? Okay, fine. You guys win.

David and Victoria Beckham: Celebrity designer meets (and marries) hunky athlete. Every date night is a fashion statement for these two.

Jay-Z and Queen Bey: Because – she’s Beyoncé.

Barack and Michelle Obama: The First Couple are the new Kennedys. Michelle has become a fashion icon in her own right, and her signature style – pairing designer labels with brands like J.Crew – continuously stuns.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge: Kate Middleton’s fashion influence has a near-global reach. From the Alexander McQueen wedding dress to her grocery-store attire, Kate’s style has morphed into a cult-like obsession. (And the Prince in Irish Guards? Yes, please.)

Which celebrity couple do you think is the most stylish?

We Couldn’t Have Said It Better…

New York Magazine: The Cut, on Kate Middleton’s impending baby bump reveal:

We Couldn't Have Said It Better

It’s no secret that we adore Kate Middleton (and her style, of course). And the duchess with some signature Beyoncé fierceness mixed in? Um… yes, please.

Make It Yours: The Kate Middleton Look

Today is the Duchess' birthday! Now give her the gift of flattery

If we talked back in 2003, I would have assured you that no celebrity on the planet was, nor ever would be, capable of getting between me and my collective girl-crush on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

But that was before Kate Middleton scored the sapphire engagement ring. And before Kate Middleton had that wedding. And before Kate Middleton took to enjoying long walks in pastoral fields wearing perfectly oversized sweaters and wellies.

Next best thing to being Kate? Dressing like her, obviously. Proving to the world that bold brights are best, that sacrificing shape is silly, and that, no, nude shoes do not make a girl look barefoot, she’s become a fashion icon in her own right – with less than two years as Duchess behind her. And now, using our Make It Your Own: The Duchess’ Style Boutique (consider it a birthday tribute; she’s 31 today) – Kate’s look can be yours.

Get the Look: Kate Middleton

Our Make It Your Own: The Duchess’ Style Boutique opens Wednesday, January 9, at 11AM ET.
