In preparation for Father’s Day, we’ve recruited five of Rue’s most stylish dads to share their thoughts on fatherhood, fashion, and more. Catch up on four of the dads right here – then read on as we spotlight our very last one.

Senior Buyer Rue La La
What are your kids’ names and ages?
I have three. Alex is 27, Christopher is 25, and Courtney is 23.

What’s your favorite thing about being a (grand)dad?
Sending my 3-year-old grandson home when he gets tired and cranky.

Do you have a Father’s Day tradition?
I always enjoy a little time playing golf with Alex or going fishing with Chris. Afterward, a cookout is usually our best chance to get everyone together and enjoy a little family time.

How would you define your style?
I enjoy modern classic styles by Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, and also catalog shopping from J.L. Powell and carbon2cobalt.

Does that style influence how you dress your children?
Alex works in an office environment and calls on new and existing clients, therefore he must dress accordingly. He enjoys great-looking, slim-fitting dress or sport shirts along with dress slacks or a nice pair of chinos. Chris just became a firefighter and only cares about great-fitting skinny jeans (and thinks I’m too old to be wearing them). Courtney is a hair stylist with a creative style all her own. So in a roundabout way, my answer is no!

What’s your son’s name and age?
Briggs. He’s 4.

What’s your favorite thing about being a dad?
The massive increase of humor in my house. My son is funny. Sometimes he means to be, sometimes he doesn’t.

Do you have a Father’s Day tradition?
We spend the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend with the other dads in our lives – my dad, father-in-law, and wife’s grandfather – and then Sunday is reserved for just me, my wife, and my son. Usually my wife lets me sleep in, we go to my favorite diner, and then we’ll do something with Briggs.

How would you define your style?
I’m from Ohio originally, so probably some flavor of Midwest preppy. And my last decade on the East Coast has definitely instilled a love for sport coats and nice shoes.

Does that style influence how you dress your son?
Definitely. Since my wife and I get to choose his clothes (for now), my son wears a lot of the same styles as I do. More than once I’ve looked at his shirt or shoes and wondered if they make them in adult sizes.

If you could receive any gift from our Father’s Day gift shop, what would it be?
I rarely buy ties since we don’t have a business-formal dress code at Rue, so I’m always disappointed with my selection when I need one. This tie is great – it goes with a lot and has just enough visual interest.

UI Rue La La

What are your kids’ names and ages?
Lucas is 4. Tyler is 1.

What’s your favorite thing about being a dad?
Making my kids laugh doing something silly, ridiculous, or otherwise insane. While I am almost certain some of these things will embarrass them in the future, I’m trying to enjoy it as much as I can until then.

Do you have a Father’s Day tradition?
As many of my colleagues know, I think myself a master of the pancake griddle. On Father’s Day, I whip up a tall stack of blueberry, banana nut, or chocolate chip flapjacks. I’ve long had visions of jumping back into bed after, and my family bringing me breakfast in bed. Maybe this will be the year we start that tradition!

How would you define your style?
I try not take myself too seriously, and my style reflects that: practical staples mixed with a little bit of fun.

Does that style influence how you dress your kids?
My kids have much better style than I do. My wife takes great pride in making sure they have fun, stylish outfits that put anything I’d dress them in to shame.

If you could receive any gift from our Father’s Day gift shop, what would it be?
This copper fry pan to help make fancier pancakes. Or this chocolate-covered bacon. Because bacon makes everything better.

Obsessed with all things chevron? Yeah, us too. So much so, in fact, we even dedicated an entire wall in our studio to the on-trend pattern. Get a behind-the-scenes look as Rue’s Assistant Stylist, Emma L., makes it happen – using ben® interior paint (eggshell finish) in Blanched Almond 1060 and Celestial PT-200 as the foundation colors, Deep Ochre 1048 and Fool’s Gold PT-250 as the corresponding top-coat colors, and Studio Finishes® Metallic Glaze for the stripes – for our Make It Warm & Welcoming: The Entryway Re-Do Boutique.

For all your chevron-wall needs, stop in to your local Benjamin Moore store.

Our Make It Warm & Welcoming: The Entryway Re-Do Boutique opens Monday, August 19, at 3PM ET.

BLG-1554-Lilly-Day

Lilly lovers, rejoice! Today is the fourth annual National Wear Your Lilly Day – and here at Rue, we can’t think of a better way to start summer (it’s the first official day, after all) than parading around in our very best sun-splashed Lilly Pulitzer pieces. Take a peek at just how our office celebrated above.

For today’s Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Boutique, our Home Team took off to Greensboro, North Carolina, for a three-day photo shoot. There, they created five different worlds – one for each buttery leather chair to live in. Luckily, we were able to snap a few behind-the-scenes shots and see how each setting came to life.

Here at Rue, we pride ourselves on our creativity – and that doesn’t end at our love for great writing, design, and killer fashion. Take, for instance, the newest addition to the after-hours lineup: the How-To Half Hour, designed to help each of us embrace our inner crafty kid.

Yesterday, we tried out this week’s Rue How-To and upcycled old T-shirts into Nantucket-inspired bracelets. How’s that for Earth Day spirit?

The Clothing Swap: It’s a fad that’s suddenly popping up everywhere. Friends gather, each bringing clothes to trade, and everyone walks away with something new – even if it is a little pre-loved.

Since we’re always looking for ways to pump up our wardrobes here at Rue La La, we decided to give it a try. (But we didn’t limit it to clothes – since we welcomed additional odds and ends, we called ours the “Stuff Swap.”)

Stuff Swap

While not as mobbed as our infamous sample sales, the Stuff Swap proved to be a success. The majority of the goods were clothing and accessories, but there were some hidden little gems, too. Where else can you find a The Muppet Show DVD set, kitchen canisters, and leopard print thank-you cards in the same place?

And the best part? In the end, everything that wasn’t nabbed by a Rue employee was packed up to be donated to Goodwill. Scoring new clothes and benefiting charity – what’s not to love?
