The Best Way to Roll Your Shirt Sleeve: In 3 Steps

The temps are rising and if you haven’t already started rolling your sleeves, you should. And I’m not talking about the dreaded flying-nun fold – an unbuttoned cuff that wings out when rolled up just once. I’m talking about a clean roll to the elbow. Here’s how to achieve it in three simple steps.

How to Roll Your Sleeves

  1. With buttons undone, flip back the cuff and get ready to roll.
  2. Fold your entire lower sleeve up so the bottom seam of the cuff rests just above the elbow.
  3. Roll the leftover fabric (from below the cuff) up and over. Tuck it all the way around for a uniform fold, leaving a quarter inch of cuff exposed for contrast.

And voilà, you’re ready to take on summer in laid-back – yet still polished – style.

Stock up on shirts and start practicing that roll. Our Robert Graham Boutique opens Wednesday, June 4, at 11AM ET.

Work It: The Men’s White Button-Front Guide

Ahh, the white dress shirt. Crisp. Clean. Classic. It’s the must-have office staple for every 9-to-5er. To make sure you’re buttoning up the right way Monday through Friday, check out these tips:

To button or not to button?
Leave only the collar button and the one below open. Three buttons and you run the risk of showing too much skin.

As Frankie would say, “Relax.”
For a more casual feel that still looks sharp, leave your cuffs undone. During the summer, roll those bad boys up.

Never let it all hang out.
No ifs, ands, or buts about it – you should always tuck in a traditional white dress shirt. It just looks sharper – period.

Keep it clean.
Brush a little Shout over sweat-prone areas (inside the collar, under the arms… you get the picture) before tossing it in the laundry.  No one – and we mean no one – wants to see yellow pit stains.

Roll Those Sleeves Up, the Right Way: A Step-By-Step Guide

Rolling Sleeve Cuffs, the Right Way

The best part about spring? The way warmer temps create decidedly more casual office attire. Case in point: rolling up the cuffs on your dressy button-downs. It’s like the cool, nonchalant way of saying, “There’s work to be done here.” But did you know there’s a proper way to execute this laid-back look? Check out the steps below to achieve an effortless sleeve roll, then go ahead and get your hands dirty.

  1. Flip your cuff back and pull it up to just above your elbow.
  2. Evenly roll the nearby inside-out shirting until it covers half the cuff, keeping the sleeve snugly in place.
  3. Make sure to leave the edge of the cuff out so that any contrasting patterns or colors peek through.
