Sure, you’ve seen pastels and metallics before – but not like this. Gone are the sugary-sweet colors and overly opulent shine. These days, pastels are tastefully muted and metallics are refreshingly toned down. Work these five picks into your space to make an on-trend statement.Metallics Pastel Home Decorating

  1. Shimmery Pillows
A super-quick and easy update. All it takes is a slew of sparkling, iridescent mother-of-pearl seashells to jazz up a pair of pillows – and any spot they come to rest on.
  2. Chic Armchair
The icy tones of this chair bring a modern vibe to any space (did you see those acrylic legs?!). It’s a total statement piece, so one is enough. But we won’t blame you if you pick up a pair.
  3. Starburst Mirror
An interior-design classic, this gold-leaf mirror complements just about every color combination there is. Hang it over a bed or seating area to instantly elevate your space.
  4. Aluminum Baskets
Whether you stack them like an art piece or line them up to serve as storage, these recycled-aluminum baskets are sure to catch the eye.
  5. Pastel Bench
Is the end of your bed looking lonely? Place this bench right up against it. Accent with pillows and a snuggly throw to get a look that’s right out of the glossies.

Freshen up your space. Our Now Trending: Modern Pastels & Metallics at Home Boutique opened Wednesday, July 29, at 11AM ET.

Your Pinterest boards are populated with impossibly cool SoHo lofts. But the real estate? Not exactly in your possession. And it doesn’t have to be. Just incorporate a few industrial-chic pieces to bring downtown style to you. Here are five picks to get you started.Urban Loft Style

  1. Leather Chair
Cigar-brown leather plus sleek stainless steel puts a contemporary spin on the classic utilitarian accent chair. If your guests weren’t so polite, they’d fight over who gets to sit in it.
  2. Metal Bar Cart
Casters give this bar cart a cool utilitarian feel. The fact that it’s also silver and mirrored? Let’s call that a glam bonus. Just load it up with spirits and you’ve got yourself a mobile drink station.
  3. Industrial End Table
Mimic the exposed systems of converted lofts with a piece that could have been salvaged from a warehouse. This wood and iron end table totally fits the bill. Just pretty it up with a potted plant.
  4. Pendant Lights
Sure, lighting helps you see, but it should also be seen. Sleek mouth-blown glass makes a statement, day or night. Grab multiples to hang over a kitchen island or dining table.
  5. Natural-Fiber Rug
A super-versatile, neutral-hued jute weave works to dress up hardwood (or concrete) on its own or as an anchor for layers. To really get the urban loft feel, pile a Moroccan-style rug or two right on top.

Our obsession with fizzy water knows no bounds, so naturally we turned to SodaStream to bring that love together with another: refreshing summer cocktails. Turns out, this Pink Lemonade White Wine Sparkle recipe is super-easy to make – and too good not to share.

  2. In a carafe, mix the flavored sparkling water with your wine and gin.

That dream kitchen you pin over and over again? It probably looks something like Ina Garten‘s (a.k.a. the Barefoot Contessa), clean and white with hints of French country style. We’d cook just to hang out there. But since a full remodel probably isn’t in the cards, here are six pieces that easily channel Ina’s laid-back Hamptons look.

Ina Garten–Inspired Kitchen

  1. Stainless Steel Cookware
If you’re going to follow Ina’s recipes to a T (she is, after all, the author of nine cookbooks), you might as well follow her cookware lead. Even if all you can do is boil spaghetti, a gleaming set of pots and pans makes you look like a pro.
  2. Flowers
Ina goes for the real deal, but if you don’t have a green thumb, a forever-fresh arrangement can come in the form of silk florals or a faux topiary. Set it down and never give a moment’s thought to watering.
  3. French-Style Baskets
Woven baskets made from natural materials – this set is water hyacinth – bring that rustic country touch. Use them to store anything from dish towels to cutting boards and cooling racks.
  4. Cake Stands
Scoop up as many as you have room for. Ina displays her collection on a top shelf as if they were sculptures. No shelves? Putting them in a glass-front cabinet works equally well.
  5. White Dinnerware
That clean, white look we’ve been going on and on about? This is a key piece of it. Stock up on sparkling white plates and serveware and you’ll never be in danger of setting out a mismatched set.
  6. Quality Wood Cutting Boards
Displayed on the countertop, the rich wood tone adds a natural contrast to gleaming stainless steel and white everything. Plus, they’re easier on your knives.

Get that kitchen makeover started. Our The Hamptons Kitchen: Inspired by Ina Garten Boutique opens Tuesday, June 9, at 11AM ET.

Sure, the planning has been maddening, but there are plenty of shopping-related silver linings. Here’s a look at some of the things on my list (invitees, take note).

We’ve been patiently waiting to trade in clunky boots and parkas for ankle-baring wedges and breezy dresses. The good news? Warmer weather is oh-so-close. While it’s not exactly time for a full-blown closet swap yet – keep the bikinis and beach towels tucked away for now – you can start making subtle switches.

Perhaps you recognize Serena & Lily‘s print-happy designs. You’ve spent some time flipping through – and coveting everything in – a catalog or two. Or maybe it’s even your go-to home brand. But do you have any idea how it all began? We’ll tell you.

Serena & Lily Bedding Home Brand_rev

Once upon a time in 2003…
Design-savvy Serena Dugan met business maven Lily Kanter. Eight months later, 15 whimsical nursery collections were born.

Celebrity moms? Obsessed.
And so is everyone else. In 2006 the brand is featured – twice – in PEOPLE magazine. By the end of the year, designs are in 600 stores.

Hello, growth spurt.
Grown-up bedding in 2009. Upholstered furniture in 2010. Entertaining musts in 2011. Two retail locations (in San Francisco and the Hamptons). Serena & Lily officially has it all.

Ready to redecorate with confidence? Our Serena & Lily Boutique opens Thursday, January 22, at 3PM ET.
