That brand new bag you just purchased a few months ago? You know, the one that’s the perfect shade for chillier temps – a deep red, or an olive green? Well, I’ve got great news for you: that bag doesn’t have to be retired just because the seasons have turned. In fact, sometimes those earthy hues can be paired with shades worthy of spring for some very unexpected – and totally stylish – color combos.

See? Paired with the right springy colors, these bags make the transition easy. So go ahead and shop – and never be deterred by seasonal colors again.

Our Foley + Corinna Boutique opens Friday, January 11, at 11AM ET.

If three’s a trend (as they say in fashion), I guess five or six is a phenomenon. Such is the case with this structured bookbag from The Cambridge Satchel Company, a UK-based bag maker whose retro-inspired cross-body has become all the rage among fashion insiders.

While the company makes its most popular style in a range of classic colors – from basic black to saddle tan to brick red – it’s the fluoroscent green and yellow hues that are being carried by in-the-know fashionistas. Modeled after a classic school bag, this boxy unisex carryall was given a thoroughly modern makeover in shades so bold they almost glow in the dark (making them really pop against the all-black ensembles worn by most New York showgoers).

I first spotted this bag on Marie Claire editor (and street style blog magnet) Joanna Hillman at the Missoni for Target preview back in June. Then this past week, I noticed no fewer than five other industry insiders, including stylists Susan Joy and Brad Goreski, carrying their own fluro satchels. Which makes sense, since they come in several sizes and are designed to hold all one’s New York Fashion Week essentials in style (bonus points for having your initials monogramed on the flap in gold lettering, as Brad and Susan did).

Why should kids have all the fun? These of-the-moment bags let you channel your inner child in high style – without having to do homework.

We’re all about destination glamour and transporting our customer to a location. And every season, I design collections based on two inspirations: a muse and a place. For Fall 2010, I was inspired by Jackie O. and her years in New York City.

Like New York itself, Jackie O. was multi-dimensional and complex. She expressed her style yet always remained classic, elegant, and timeless. I am fascinated by the legacy of her culture, compassion, and charm.

My personal favorites from the collection:

1. Alexandra Black Croc: A classic vintage clutch for the Jackie O. in us all.
2. Sand Snake Slim Frame Clutch: The perfect travel companion – a wallet by day and sleek clutch by night.
3. Paige Plum Studded Flat: The plum hue of this flat evokes a feeling of royalty, while the studs add some edge.
4. Mel Leopard Velvet: A festive holiday flat with rich enamel hardware.

Jackie O. is and always will be a great American style icon. Grab your dark sunglasses, string of pearls, and white gloves and join us on our Fall 2010 journey!

XO, Elaine

AN INTERVIEW WITH SHOE AND HANDBAG DESIGNER ELAINE TURNER

Elaine Turner is turning 10. And what a decade it’s been. We sat down for a one-on-one chat with the designer who always knows how to make resort wear uber chic. Read our interview as Elaine dishes on the past decade, her hopes for the future, and how one little flowerpot-top handle bag started it all.

Rue La La: Who and what have been some of your biggest influences over the past decade?
Elaine: I am influenced by many things - seaside destinations, modern art, architecture, and interior design. Over the past decade I have been primarily influenced by iconic fashion and interior designers - Kelly Wearstler, Jonathan Adler, Diane Von Furstenberg, Trina Turk, and Milly - to name a few.

Rue La La: What inspires you?
Elaine: Bold colors, graphic prints, unexpected combinations of materials, and also the glamour, modernism, and nostalgia of the mid-century time period of the late 1950s and 60s.

Rue La La: Do you still love something you made in 2000 as much as you do today?
Elaine: Yes! Two of my favorite bags were the “Jackie” and “Maria” tote - both were raffia bags with hard tortoise handles that I’d still sport today.

Rue La La: What are some of your favorite pieces from the past decade?
Elaine: In 2005, we designed an assortment of envelope clutches and to this day our “Alice” clutch is one of my favorites. Another is our reinterpretation of the renowned “Kelly” bag.

Rue La La: And what are you hung up on from your current collection?
Elaine: I love the beach-chic style of our “Sandy” tote. She is great for travel or sitting by the pool. Olivia is also a personal favorite. She is a glamorous cross-body that is perfect for a woman on the go!

Rue La La: How are you going to celebrate your 10-year mark?
Elaine: We are commemorating this event by launching an “Elaine Turner Vintage” capsule collection this fall. We are bringing back two iconic Elaine Turner handbags: the “Pamela” tote and the “Alexandra” clutch. Both were integral to our success.

Rue La La: Every decade has its signature trends. Your highlights from this past decade?
Elaine: The return of 80’s glam, the evolution of the jeans business and watching jeans become a true fashion statement, the revival of the ballet flat, looser and more casual dressing, the statement necklace, colorful accessories, the oversized handbag, booties, gladiator sandals, stilettos - it’s endless!

Rue La La: Share a favorite red carpet fashion moment from this decade.
Elaine: When Reese Witherspoon wore the short, yellow cocktail dress that Nina Ricci designed to the Golden Globes in 2007. Fresh, sophisticated, and sexy all in one. Fabulous!

Rue La La: What were you wearing 10 years ago that still stands the test of time?
Elaine: Pencil skirts, fitted jackets, and crisp white shirts.

Rue La La: How about something you wore then that you wouldn’t wear today?
Elaine: Pantyhose!

AN INTERVIEW WITH LUCY SYKES RELLIE, FASHION DIRECTOR OF JUDITH LEIBER

Lucy Sykes Rellie is a fixture of modern New York City society and a paragon of chic. Having made her distinctive mark on the fashion fronts of Bazaar, Town & Country, Vogue, and Allure, this designer darling (also a designer in her own right) has an impeccable eye for bringing couture elements to life in a wholly fresh, original way. It’s no wonder then that she has become the fashion director for Judith Leiber – the master of all things luxe, whose delicious indulgences she views as a key part of her personal style file.

Rue La La: What’s a surprising look to create with a Judith Leiber handbag this year?
LSR: Dressing your Judith Leiber down not up. Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Jeans and a white T-shirt can look couture.” Even more so when you add the twist of something decadent, decorated – something more obviously at home in a dressed-up environment.

Rue La La: What Judith Leiber handbags are in your personal collection?
LSR: Not enough. My wish list would be the Lacewing (Spring 2010), Chocolate Bar (available on Rue La La), and a classic shape in Rhine.

Rue La La: When and where did you last carry a Judith Leiber purse?
LSR: I threw a dinner on Monday for my husband Euan Rellie’s birthday. We took over Macao Trading Company in Tribeca. I invited forty people – a mixture of journalists, and fashion people, and artists, and even a banker or two. Everyone got carried away after the rum and ginger cocktails. We all ended up downstairs in the Macao lounge which has a seductive, exotic hipster vibe, and an amazing DJ. The other women there – supermodel Rie Rasmussen, TV exec Claude Davies, JWT boss Merrie Harris, stylists like Bonnie Morrison, Amanda Ross, and Tracy Taylor… they were all going crazy for my Leiber minaudiere. A few of the others were carrying Leiber too, so we had a Leiber-love-in. The evening and the glittery bags gave us this sense of the flirty, elegant debauchery of the 1970s.

Rue La La: Who did you just love seeing carrying a Judith Leiber bag?
LSR: Cameron Diaz at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party this year. She carried the Leeloo and looked timeless, glamorous and sexy. Paula Patton, Anna Kendrick, Nicole Richie, Katy Perry, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz – each of them looked so chic with a Leiber. But Cameron just carried it off beautifully.

Rue La La: What should every woman have in her evening handbag?
LSR: A woman can’t go anywhere without her lip gloss. I’m never without a tube of Estee Lauder Eight Hour Cream. You can use it for anything.

Rue La La: What item is worth keeping out for space in the handbag?
LSR: A BlackBerry. Its nice to have a break but when I have a moment of downtime in the back of a cab, I take my BlackBerry out and catch up with the latest fashion blogs. Of course I always look at Rue La La first.
