Bring Those Cool-Weather Hues Into Spring

Who says last season's bag can't take on warmer temps?

That brand new bag you just purchased a few months ago? You know, the one that’s the perfect shade for chillier temps – a deep red, or an olive green? Well, I’ve got great news for you: that bag doesn’t have to be retired just because the seasons have turned. In fact, sometimes those earthy hues can be paired with shades worthy of spring for some very unexpected – and totally stylish – color combos.

Fall Bags in Spring

See? Paired with the right springy colors, these bags make the transition easy. So go ahead and shop – and never be deterred by seasonal colors again.

Our Foley + Corinna Boutique opens Friday, January 11, at 11AM ET.

NYFW Front-Row Trend: Fluro Satchels

Fluro bags

If three’s a trend (as they say in fashion), I guess five or six is a phenomenon. Such is the case with this structured bookbag from The Cambridge Satchel Company, a UK-based bag maker whose retro-inspired cross-body has become all the rage among fashion insiders.

While the company makes its most popular style in a range of classic colors – from basic black to saddle tan to brick red – it’s the fluoroscent green and yellow hues that are being carried by in-the-know fashionistas. Modeled after a classic school bag, this boxy unisex carryall was given a thoroughly modern makeover in shades so bold they almost glow in the dark (making them really pop against the all-black ensembles worn by most New York showgoers).

Designer Inspiration: Elaine Turner on “The Jackie O,” and More

BY ELAINE TURNER

Elaine Turner

We’re all about destination glamour and transporting our customer to a location. And every season, I design collections based on two inspirations: a muse and a place. For Fall 2010, I was inspired by Jackie O. and her years in New York City.

Like New York itself, Jackie O. was multi-dimensional and complex. She expressed her style yet always remained classic, elegant, and timeless. I am fascinated by the legacy of her culture, compassion, and charm.

A Decade of Design

AN INTERVIEW WITH SHOE AND HANDBAG DESIGNER ELAINE TURNER

Elaine Turner

Elaine Turner is turning 10. And what a decade it’s been. We sat down for a one-on-one chat with the designer who always knows how to make resort wear uber chic. Read our interview as Elaine dishes on the past decade, her hopes for the future, and how one little flowerpot-top handle bag started it all.

Rue La La: Who and what have been some of your biggest influences over the past decade?
Elaine: I am influenced by many things - seaside destinations, modern art, architecture, and interior design. Over the past decade I have been primarily influenced by iconic fashion and interior designers - Kelly Wearstler, Jonathan Adler, Diane Von Furstenberg, Trina Turk, and Milly - to name a few.

Five-Minute Pow-Wow: Lucy Sykes Rellie Talks Handbags

AN INTERVIEW WITH LUCY SYKES RELLIE, FASHION DIRECTOR OF JUDITH LEIBER

Judith LeiberLucy Sykes Rellie is a fixture of modern New York City society and a paragon of chic. Having made her distinctive mark on the fashion fronts of Bazaar, Town & Country, Vogue, and Allure, this designer darling (also a designer in her own right) has an impeccable eye for bringing couture elements to life in a wholly fresh, original way. It’s no wonder then that she has become the fashion director for Judith Leiber – the master of all things luxe, whose delicious indulgences she views as a key part of her personal style file.

Rue La La: What’s a surprising look to create with a Judith Leiber handbag this year?
LSR: Dressing your Judith Leiber down not up. Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Jeans and a white T-shirt can look couture.” Even more so when you add the twist of something decadent, decorated – something more obviously at home in a dressed-up environment.
