Fact: Dooney & Bourke bags are instantly recognizable. But do you know why the label chose its iconic duck logo? Or how its name came about? Find out here.

  1. Created in 1975, the brand is named after founders Peter Dooney and Frederic Bourke.
  2. The signature duck symbol was chosen because the label’s specially treated All-Weather Leather is naturally water-repellent, like a duck’s feathers.
  3. Dooney & Bourke’s first bags were traditional equestrian saddle bags. Today, you can still find samples of said bags at the label’s headquarters in Norwalk, CT.

Our Dooney & Bourke Boutique opens Wednesday, October 23, at 11AM ET.
