Five-Minute Pow-Wow: Miguelina Gambaccini Gets Inspired

AN INTERVIEW WITH WOMENSWEAR DESIGNER MIGUELINA GAMBACCINI

Miguelina

Miguelina is known for her ultra-feminine designs: romantic textures, airy colors, and international allure. Her Fall 2010 collection (which our selection comes from) is inspired by the Spanish dancers depicted in Colombian photographer Ruven Afanador’s book, Mil Besos, and gets a shot of edge. We touched base with Miguelina herself to get her take on style, inspiration, and travel.

Rue La La: What is about the Spanish dancers that you found so enticing during design for your Fall 2010 collection?
Miguelina: The passion of the Flamenco dancers and the freedom of their expression. I responded to the way Ruven captured their spirit through his work.

Rue La La: What are other sources of inspiration for your line?
Miguelina: I usually gain a lot of inspiration from my travels, but this season was mainly influenced by Ruven Afanador’s work. It inspired me to incorporate a bit of edge to my own creative vision.

Designer Inspiration: Elaine Turner on “The Jackie O,” and More

BY ELAINE TURNER

Elaine Turner

We’re all about destination glamour and transporting our customer to a location. And every season, I design collections based on two inspirations: a muse and a place. For Fall 2010, I was inspired by Jackie O. and her years in New York City.

Like New York itself, Jackie O. was multi-dimensional and complex. She expressed her style yet always remained classic, elegant, and timeless. I am fascinated by the legacy of her culture, compassion, and charm.

Native Rose by Kathy Rose

After the finale of Launch My Line, we sat down with winner Kathy Rose to talk about her new line, Native Rose (sold only on Rue La La!). Light the sage and take a peek at this woman of style, substance, bright lipstick, and positivity.

Rue La La: Have you always loved jewelry and clothes?
Kathy: Ever since I was little, I was obsessed with the encyclopedia, especially the “Gs” and looking at gems! I lived in Iran, where I saw saffron and lapis. Those colors! And I always loved clothes. I’ve worked with amazing stylists, beautiful people like Rachel Zoe, and huge couture designers. When Launch My Line came along, I thought “Okay, I’ll try this,” and then it was “Omigod, I made it onto the show.” And, “I made it to the finale.” I am so grateful.
