This week, we’re breaking down exactly which trends to wear on top this spring. Next Tuesday, we’ll tackle those bottoms.

1. The crop top is here to stay. So pull out your collection – or start building one immediately.

2. Don’t freak out. There’s no football experience required to sport these varsity jackets.

3. Give the necklace a break. Embellished collars are having a much-deserved moment.

4. Chambray all day, every day? We’re cool with that.

5. The trench is timeless and chic. So we’re buying one in every color.

If there’s one thing to know about the crop top, it’s that it doesn’t have to be reserved solely for summer. All you need is a quick lesson in layering to transform the warm-weather staple into a winter must-have. Since layering can be tricky, however, we enlisted the help of Rue Stylist Caroline M. to show us how it’s done.

How to Wear a Crop Top in Winter

“Go for a long-sleeve crop top that functions as a layering piece, and throw it on over a button-front shirt to protect your midriff through the colder months,” says Caroline. “Add tough-girl edge by pairing it with a high-waisted leather skirt and finishing it off with a bright statement necklace for a pop of color and a hint of glam.”
