College basketball season may be over, but since we’re fairly certain Louisville is still celebrating their triumph, we figured we’d share a sports-related victory of our own. It all started with a simple Rue college basketball bracket pool. Ten bucks to enter (optional, of course), and the Associate with the winning bracket could donate it all to the charity of their choice – with a 100% match from Rue La La.

The result? Out of nearly 200 brackets and countless charities, Assistant Buyer Michelle F. won it all for Autism Speaks, a leading organization dedicated to funding the research for treatment, prevention, and awareness of autism. In her own words:

“I chose Autism Speaks because of the work they do for the autistic community and the families that need support. My parents go to the autistic gala every year and cannot speak more fondly of the positive and heartwarming work that raising money for the foundation does as well as how many families it affects. I also have to say that I received some really positive emails from my Rue La La coworkers, many that said how much they appreciated the donation because they have a cousin/sibling/child that has autism. With so many great charities to pick from I felt like these emails supported my choice.”

College Basketball Primer

I absolutely love the month of March. Not only are signs of spring starting to emerge, but the best sporting event of the year (at least in my opinion) occurs. I’m talking, of course, about that month-long college basketball extravaganza. No other sport’s playoff comes even close. In college basketball, nothing is guaranteed. Upsets are commonplace – meaning filling out a winning bracket takes some combination of knowledge and total luck.

So here, some tips for you. The simplest (but least exciting) way to fill out that bracket is to pick the top-seeded teams to win each matchup. This year, that means taking Louisville, Kansas, Indiana, and Gonzaga. But like I said, nothing is guaranteed in the tournament – except that at least one of those teams won’t make it to the finals.

Another route? Pick by mascot. But good luck sorting out some of those match-ups. Who do you take between a Fighting Irish and a Cyclone? Your guess is as good as mine.

Since college basketball is no stranger to fashion controversies (just check out the very interesting alternate uniforms adidas recently unveiled), why not make your picks based on what they’re sporting? If you choose that route, make room for Michigan, Marquette, University of North Carolina (the argyle is pretty iconic), and Oregon.

Whatever you choose, make sure you tune in starting Thursday. This is one month-long sporting event that shouldn’t be missed.
