A New Leaf: 4 Fresh-From-the-Runway Pieces

BLG-1633_Fall_Preview-1

Sorry, Lana Del Rey – there’s no summertime sadness here. After seeing what’s in store for fashion this fall, we’re more than ready for the change of seasons. So ready, in fact, that we’re already stocking up on four of this autumn’s must-have pieces.

1. The Essential Leather Jacket
Leather jackets have been around forever. But this season, you don’t have to go all rocker-chic to add one to your closet. (Especially with alternatives to the jet-black we’re used to seeing.) Warm and stylish, this addition can be paired with lace for a girly twist or even thrown over your favorite summer maxi. Talk about transitional fashion.

2. A Pair of High-Waisted Jeans
Still hesitant about the high-waisted denim trend? We promise – you won’t look like your mom (no offense, Ma). Simply put, these jeans elevate every look. And an added bonus: those summertime crop-tops don’t have to be packed away anymore.

3. Some Lug Soles
Groundbreaking. Earth-shattering. Well, not literally – we hope. But it is clunky-chic. Whether with a thick sole or a stacked heel, these boots are bound to make a statement. (Prada knows best, after all.)

4. One Cashmere Cape
Move over, Superman. If Valentino and Isabel Marant say so, then it must be true: the cape is making its triumphant return this season. And we’re not complaining. Pair it with those ankle boots and the high-waisted denim we mentioned earlier, and boom – outfit game-changer.

Our First Look: Pre-Fall Style for Women & Men Boutique opens Friday, August 2, at 11AM ET.

The Three Must-Have Coats of the Season

Long gone are the days when just one coat would suffice – now it seems we need a different jacket for every occasion. But when the styles are all so different, who can blame us for justifying that third (or fourth) coat purchase of the season? If you’re having trouble deciding which must-have item to scoop up next, here are some ideas:

Black Hidden Zipper Leather Jacket: Not just for biker chicks anymore, this ebony number adds a little edge to sweet frocks and Saturday night’s typical jeans-and-heels combo.

Black Belted Wool and Cashmere Cape: The cape is back in full force, and we couldn’t be happier. With less bulk than a standard winter coat (and much more chic), this piece is the perfect option for last-minute dinner plans. Bonus: It can be left on through the whole meal to keep you warm without compromising style.

Black Classic Belted Down Coat: The A-player in winter warmth? The belted puffer. Now with a more streamlined fit and flattering vertical seams, this is one coat we’ll never head to the bus stop without.

Our Go-Everywhere Coats: Capes, Down Jackets, & More Boutique opens Monday, October 15, at 11AM ET.

Stylist Spotlight: Fashion Forward Into Fall

BY SAN FRANCISCO-BASED STYLIST AND BLOGGER MARCY CARMACK

Fashion Forward Into Fall

Fall is such an exciting time of year. Stores are filling up fast with new merchandise, and designers begin to showcase their newest collections on the runways. As fashion lovers, we all want new things at the beginning of the season because style is fresh and exciting, and luckily for San Franciscans, we are able to wear fall clothing almost year round because of the perpetually cool weather. As American writer Mark Twain said, “the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!”

As a stylist, I love discovering fashion ideas before they happen, and I always aim to be a little bit different. Here, a few of my favorite looks for fall:
