Our Fashion Director Tackles the Black & White Trend

There’s no color combination more versatile than black and white. The proof? Just check out the three distinctive outfits our fashion director put together below.

alice + olivia

  1. Black-and-white looks don’t have to be basic. Paired with a simple bodysuit, these striped, sequined pants make for a fun party ensemble.
  2. With stripes, don’t always think in one direction. Try them every which way to make a flowy top (like the one above) surprisingly flattering.
  3. Give a nod to the trend’s mod roots with this houndstooth number. For an extra kick, add over-the-knee boots.

Our alice + olivia Boutique opened Tuesday, August 26, at 11AM ET.

Reading Between the Lines: A Breakdown of Contemporary Label Names

The meaning behind a label’s name isn’t always as straightforward as Chanel (it’s Coco’s surname). Today, many designers go for more elusive monikers, often paying homage to muses and family members. Here are the stories behind a few of our favorites.

Party On: 3 Festive Looks for the Holiday Circuit

It’s that time of year again (if you can believe it). Now comes the question of what to wear to all those holiday parties. Don’t panic. From black-tie galas to girls’ nights out, just take a cue from the outfits below. Then get to celebrating.

3 Festive Holiday Looks

Black Tie
‘Tis the season for galas. Because you’ll be standing, sitting, and dancing all night, opt for a pleated floor-length gown or a fit-and-flare skirt. You’ll appreciate the easy movement of these silhouettes after dinner and cocktails.

Girls’ Night
This time of year, every outing should feel festive. Relaxed enough for brie and wine at your best friend’s house but dressed-up enough for dinner or drinks, red says, “Let the celebration begin.”

Cocktail Hour
An LBD is always classic, but lace, brocade, and fur help you stand out and add just enough whimsy to make the look holiday-ready. Now, assume your spot underneath that mistletoe.

The Fall 2013 Beauty Report: Part 2

The ponytail and bold, red lips are back

The Fall 2013 Beauty Report: Part 2

While the whirlwind that is New York Fashion Week has come to a close, the beauty trends (and street-style photos) are definitely some of the most memorable. The slightly messy, undone looks that we saw on the runways at the beginning of the week were present until the very end. Straight, unfussy hairstyles and minimal makeup (aside from a sweep of copper eyeshadow or a red lip) were at the forefront of almost every runway. So whether it’s the burgundy pouts at Derek Lam and alice + olivia, or a love for the ever-chic ponytail at Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Jenny Packham (tied with a silk ribbon), and Alexander Wang, one thing’s for certain – fall can’t come fast enough.

Most Wanted: A Peek at This Week’s Boutiques

1. Sondra Roberts bag. Hello, dreamweaver. (See what I did there?) Our The Final Dash: Handbags & Little Leather Treats Boutique opens Tuesday, December 18, at 11AM ET.

2. Ray-Ban sunglasses. While I’ve always wavered on whether this shape will fit my face, you know what? I’m over it. There’s no way these wouldn’t look totally cool on anyone. Our Ray-Ban Boutique opens Monday, December 17, at 11AM ET.

3. alice + olivia dress. I learned very early on that the best way to party is in an unrestricting (read: eating-friendly) dress. So bring on the passed hors d’oeuvres. Our alice + olivia Boutique opens Tuesday, December 18, at 11AM ET.

4. luxury rebel boots. Chalk it up to the holidays, but glittery gold’s become my newest favorite neutral. Our luxury rebel Boutique opens Monday, December 17, at 11AM ET.
