Plunging necklines, sweet pastels, and matching sets (denim-on-denim included). Each trend can be daunting, especially the Canadian Tuxedo, but these celebs pulled them off with ease.

Jeans. You basically live in them. So it’s nothing sort of tragic when your go-to pair starts getting that telltale inner-thigh thinning (we’ve all been there) or starts to lose its perfectly broken-in shape or hue. But fear not. Here are a few quick tips to ensure that those days are far, far away.

Maintain Your Denim

  1. Don’t wash too much. Only launder your jeans when they’re stained or starting to sag.
  2. If you’re concerned about odor, hang your jeans in the bathroom before a shower to freshen them up with damp steam. Or go ahead and freeze them in a plastic bag for a day or two.
  3. When you do have to subject your denim to the spin cycle, turn it inside out and use cold water to maintain the color. If it’s your first-ever wash, try vinegar instead of detergent. The acid helps set the hue.
  4. Keep machine drying to a minimum. Toss the jeans in for ten minutes on high, then hang them upside down to air-dry. Or, if you don’t have time to air-dry, choose the lowest possible heat setting.

After over 35 years in the business, Parisian-born designer Jerome Dahan has earned his place in premium denim history. But just how did he get there? Take a peek below.

Jerome Dahan

1977: At the age of 15, Jerome Dahan moves from Paris to Montreal, where he designs his first pair of jeans while working in a denim shop.
1981: Jerome follows his father to Los Angeles, where the two work on a shirt line.
1981 – 1984: Partnering with his father, he launches his first line, Oxygen, and pioneers the acid-wash jean style.
1986 – 1989: Jerome leaves Oxygen to work for the Marciano brothers (of GUESS) and they form another company called Circa.
1990 – 1991: He decides to leave Circa to create A Gold E jeans with Ron Herman.
1991 – 1999: After a few short stints at other companies, the Parisian designer takes a position with Lucky Brand that lasts for nine years.
1999 – 2003: After 20 years of experience in the business, Jerome creates 7 For All Mankind (a name he gets from his favorite movie, Armageddon), a more refined version of Lucky Brand.
2003 – Present: Both Jerome and his partner leave 7 For All Mankind to start a new denim giant, Citizens of Humanity, which is an instant success. This label, too, gets its name from Armageddon.

The leaves are changing, and so should your denim rotation. If you’re a little wary of breaking away from your typical blues, don’t worry. These tips will have you nailing the hue-happy trend in no time.

Men
Try subdued shades, like khaki or deep burgundy, which pair well with fall’s neutrals. Just make sure you’re paying attention to fit. Bunching and pulling are more noticeable in colors.

Women
Spring may have been full of pastels and brights, but autumn’s colored jeans? They mimic the foliage – think emerald and copper. Keep the rest of your outfit neutral so the hues are front and center.

In a very short amount of time, these jeans by 7 For All Mankind have become an obsession of mine. I can’t stop staring at them. I need them in my life. Here are – you guessed it – seven reasons why.

My love for boots and jeans? It spans seasons (and closets). With their ability to take outfits from rugged to western or work-ready to formal, every wardrobe should be equipped with a few favorite pairs of each. So, before you trade in this twosome for gladiator sandals and shorts, here are four ways to wear it now.
BLG-1179Studs & Stripes
Most who master roll-out-of-bed chic (you know: tousled hair, ripped jeans, off-the-shoulder tee) try really hard at it. The fabulous thing about these moto boots? They make it so you don’t have to. And jeans with a rad dye job are casual without looking messy. With a little less draping and a little more shampoo, I’m loving this look.

Cuff It Up
If you’re willing to forgo bum-hugging denim every once in a while, buy your jeans one size up for a relaxed look (and feel). Cuff them and add ankle boots or shooties (they’re a thing) and show a little skin.

Seek New Heights
Too soon for coral-toned denim? Not so. Okay, so these are cords, but all the more reason to wear them in winter. And with these outback-meets-urban-chic mid-calf platforms (loving the pull straps), this look is staple transition wear.

Bend the Rules
For some, the blue denim-on-denim is western-wardrobe amazingness. For others, it’s somewhat of a work in progress. Find an alternative to the ever-elusive Texas tuxedo with white or colored jeans and cowboy-beige boots. And before you even think it, let me be clear: it’s never too early (or late) to wear white.
