Mark Your Calendars: FLOTUS Set to Open Anna Wintour Costume Center

Every year, big-name stars attend the Met Gala – but this time, the turnout is projected to be beyond A-list. According to WWD, First Lady (and two-time Vogue cover star) Michelle Obama will cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the Met’s new fashion wing, The Anna Wintour Costume Center. And just like that, my anticipation for the Met Gala skyrocketed.

Michelle Obama to Open Anna Wintour Costume Center

I mean, sure, I was already excited for the white-tie dress code and the Charles James exhibition. But this? This is bigger than big. And in addition to cutting the ribbon, the First Lady will also be speaking at the morning’s ceremony. So a stunning day dress is definitely going to happen. My bet is on something black and white, especially after she went monochromatic on a recent trip to China.

Now, it’s not certain if she will attend the evening Gala (bummer), but regardless, this is one FLOTUS sighting you won’t want to miss.

Head over to WWD for more on Michelle Obama’s Met appearance.

How to Eat Your Way Through Abruzzo, Italy

Before I traveled to Italy, I was told: Understand how the food works. In Southern Italy, you’ll eat red sauce and olive oil. In the north? Butter. Parmesan cheese. Maybe some truffles. Despite the fact that the country is no bigger than half of Texas, there is no one way to cook Italian. Everything’s completely regional. And if you want to eat through Italy right, you have to know what to get where.

This can be tricky, considering Italy has 20 regions. Rome’s Lazio, Milan’s Lombardia, and Toscana (or Tuscany, as we know it) are some of the most familiar. So, let’s start small – with one of the country’s lesser-known, but no less picturesque, regions: Abruzzo.

What to Eat in Abruzzo, Italy

Tucked east of touristy Lazio, quieter Abruzzo seems to have it all. Rugged mountains. Forested national parks. The Adriatic Sea. And with its diverse landscape comes a huge range of cuisine.

Here are a few of the items Abruzzo does best:

Instant Inspiration: 5 Pinterest Boards We Can’t Get Enough Of

A Tuesday roundup of our recent Pinterest obsessions

The Spring 2015 Bridal Collections have officially arrived. Get your Pinboards ready.

1. Monique Lhuillier‘s entire collection is a dream. But this one gown just single-handedly took “something blue” to a whole new level.

2. Jeweled, sheer, and romantic. Jenny Packham, you’ve done it again.

3. Off-the-shoulder necklines are making a comeback. Hopping aboard the trend train? Mr. Oscar de la Renta himself.

4. Tulle overskirts had a major moment on Amsale‘s runway. (And we loved every second of it.)

5. We always expect inventively gorgeous designs from Vera Wang, and this year’s looks certainly didn’t disappoint.

All About Earth Day: 3 Ways to Make It Count

We’ve all heard of Earth Day, which is celebrated every year on April 22, but other than the basic premise that it has to do with environmentalism, do we really know what it’s all about? Or what we can do to make this day different than any other? Here’s a quick breakdown.

All About Earth Day

It all started at the height of the whole hippie and flower-child movement. Protest was a big part of that era, but environmentalism? Not so much, at least initially. Rachel Carson’s bestseller, Silent Spring, brought the concept to the masses in 1962, and in 1970, Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day. As a result, the United States Environmental Protection Agency was created, and the Clean AirClean Water, and Endangered Species Acts were all passed.

Here’s what you can do to commemorate the day.

Red-Carpet Recap: Kate Upton Talks Style at The Other Woman Premiere

Last night, Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton took to the red carpet for the L.A. premiere of their movie, The Other Woman. And once again, the ladies didn’t disappoint on the fashion front. (Be sure to shop their style from the film in our Movie-Inspired Style: The Other Woman Boutique, live now.)

Leslie Mann, joined by husband Judd Apatow and their two daughters, worked this season’s colorblocking trend, pairing a hot-pink strapless crop top with a coral high-waisted skirt. Cameron Diaz showed off her famous gams in a short little black dress with a plunging neckline, while Kate Upton shone bright in a sparkling Dolce & Gabbana mini dress topped with Chanel jewelry.

The Other Woman L.A. Premiere

Now, while Leslie and Cameron are no strangers to movie-premiere fashion, this is 21-year-old Kate’s first movie press tour – but the bombshell sure seems to be holding her own just fine. Before she headed into the Regency Village Theater to take in the premiere, we grabbed her for a few questions. Here, she talks red-carpet style and more.

Rue La La: You’ve had some great looks this press tour, from the Christian Siriano dress you wore in the Netherlands to the red mini you rocked in Germany. Do you have a favorite?
Kate Upton: That’s tough, but honestly, probably this one. I love Dolce & Gabbana.

Rue La La: In The Other Woman, your character Amber has a very laid-back, Cali-cool look. Is your personal style anything like Amber’s?
Kate Upton: It’s not. It was actually really funny, whenever I was looking through her clothes I was like, “Well, I wouldn’t wear that, I wouldn’t wear that,” because that’s how I am on modeling sets. But I’d stop and realize, I’m not looking for myself, this is for Amber. And it was really cool to create a style for a character.

Rue La La: If you could steal the style of one of your costars – Leslie or Cameron – who would it be?
Kate Upton: I love both of their styles. When we’re out together I’m always like, “I want that shirt, and those shoes.” It’s just so much fun being on tour with them and seeing how they put together outfits.

Charitable Fashion: Jimmy Choo Designs Shoes to Benefit Fukushima

Thousands of people still remain displaced after the 2011 nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan. So, following his recent visit to the country, Jimmy Choo decided to take action.

The shoe designer announced last Friday that he has created six pairs of shoes made from local Fukushima materials, like Aizu cotton and Kawamata silk, and by using artisanal techniques native to the region. Each one-of-a-kind design is meant to shine a spotlight on the stunning craftsmanship of the area, and the proceeds will be donated to local organizations that help those affected by the tragedy.
