At-Home Know-How: 3 Things to Try, Stat

For peaceful sleep: Take a steamy 15-minute bath before bedtime to raise your body temperature. When it drops, you’ll coast into dreamland.

For bright lips: Fall hues may be moody, but don’t hesitate to perk them up with a neon lip color. Consider it a statement accessory for your neutral pieces.

For blemishes: Use a safety pin to pop a gel capsule pain reliever like Advil – instead of popping the pimple – and squeeze it onto skin.

Beauty on the Fly: TSA Lifting Its 3.4-Ounce Rule

The days of squeezing your precious Kérastase shampoo into little plastic bottles from the drugstore – or worse, tossing it at airport security – will soon be a distant memory. A TSA administrator recently divulged to the Chicago Tribune that, at some point in the indefinite future, the 3.4-ounce restriction for carry-on liquids will be lifted. Cue the celebratory cheers.

While the TSA is keeping mum on a timeline, we do know only those who participate in the TSA Pre✓™ program will reap the benefit. Look into that application process here.

At-Home Know-How: 3 Things to Try, Stat

For fragrances: Perfume wearing off too quickly? Moisturize before applying and spray onto heat-activating pulse points (wrist, neck, behind the knee).

For eyeshadow: Foundation might act as a base layer on your face, but on eyelids, it may crease. Equip yourself with eyeshadow primer for a smooth surface.

For your skin: Create a DIY microdermabrasion mask using baking soda and your favorite face wash. Combine and massage into congested skin, then rinse and follow with a swipe of toner.

Behind the Scenes We Go: Shimmering Eyes at Christian Siriano

Project Runway alum–turned–New York Fashion Week regular Christian Siriano is a true success story. And his Spring 2015 Collection? In icy arctic blues and greens, sharp laser-cut patterns, and crystal embroidery – inspired by the diffusion of light and reflective transparency of Sergio Redegalli’s glass sculptures – well, it’s par for the course.

nyfw_christian_siriano_beauty

Makeup artist Polly Mellon helped bring the vision to life, with models batting glittery eyelashes as they strutted around the set’s tall framed mirrors. We suspect shimmering lids will be a beauty trend with staying power (and one that would look particularly good on front-row guest Coco Rocha). So we connected with Polly to get the scoop on how to bring the iridescent look home.

Initial It: Burberry’s New Fragrance Gets Personal

Today, Burberry unveiled its new customizable My Burberry fragrance with an accompanying ad campaign featuring British supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne.

Shot by the legendary Mario Testino, the television and print ads feature the models in the brand’s iconic Sandringham trench coat, marking the first time Kate and Cara have posed together. “It felt like we were making something special. It’s so exciting to see it come to life now,” Cara said about the campaign.

The label’s new signature fragrance, created with contemporary perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, represents the brand’s classic trench coat and captures the essence of a London garden after the rain. And its “My Burberry” name isn’t just a cheeky moniker. Those who purchase the 90-milliliter eau de parfum can personalize the glass bottle with up to three initials, further fueling monogram obsessions everywhere.

The campaign also has a digital side. Customers have the ability to preview a giant replica of their monogrammed bottle on select billboards in London and New York via their smartphones. Not in either city? No worries. Just personalize a bottle and share it on your news feed.

With the holidays fast approaching, this fragrance is sure to be at the top of every perfume enthusiast’s wish list. (Hint, hint, Mom.)

Sushi Nail Art: A Manicured Thumbs Up or Down?

You may have had sushi in your hands before, but probably not like this. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Japanese manicure trend is going viral on social media, with posts garnering thousands of retweets in just a few days’ time. sushinailart

People are getting crafty with food-inspired details, generally opting for at least one nail’s worth of 3D roe, rice, or octopus tentacles. Other common sightings include realistic salmon and tuna patterns, petite shrimp tails, and seaweed stripes. Can you imagine what a letdown this trend must be for sushi-loving nail biters?

About Face: NARS Unveils New Fall Campaign

Whenever I ask my mother if I “look okay,” she always replies, “Yes, but throw on a little lipstick.” Over at NARS, the mother of all beauty brands, lipstick is also on the agenda as the label celebrates 20 years in the business. A newly announced fall campaign features a collection of 40 game-changing hues with 68-year-old English actress Charlotte Rampling as the face of the campaign.

The Audacious Lipstick Collection will launch in September and is inspired by the 12 colors in François Nars’s first-ever collection. Unlike most fall shades, these range from electric red to lavender and can be worn well after the leaves turn. The impeccable ad features Charlotte, a longtime muse of NARS, in a stunning black-and-white photo taken by the founder himself.

Rumor has it that this collection delivers full color in just one stroke. So clear off the vanity, because it may be the only lipstick you’ll ever need. And, of course, my mother would definitely approve.

From Red Soles to Red Toes: Meet Christian Louboutin Beauté

One of the biggest names in shoes has officially introduced his moniker to the beauty business. Christian Louboutin Beauté, a long-rumored extension of the shoe designer’s label, just launched with a flagship red nail polish leading the way. Titled “Rouge Louboutin,” the varnish is packaged in a faceted glass bottle with a calligraphy-inspired cap, playing off the eight-inch heel height of his tallest shoe, the Ballerina Ultima. A stiletto-shaped bottle is an obvious choice, but it’s also a nod to Louboutin’s first red soles in 1992, which were literally painted with nail polish.

Not unlike a pair of his coveted red soles, “Rouge Louboutin” doesn’t come cheap. Currently the only hue available, the signature crimson shade will run you $50. Start contributing to your Louboutin fund – 30 more colors will debut on August 31. Until I can afford my own pair, I’ll settle for sporting red on my toes instead of my soles.
