Initial It: Burberry’s New Fragrance Gets Personal

Today, Burberry unveiled its new customizable My Burberry fragrance with an accompanying ad campaign featuring British supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne.

Shot by the legendary Mario Testino, the television and print ads feature the models in the brand’s iconic Sandringham trench coat, marking the first time Kate and Cara have posed together. “It felt like we were making something special. It’s so exciting to see it come to life now,” Cara said about the campaign.

The label’s new signature fragrance, created with contemporary perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, represents the brand’s classic trench coat and captures the essence of a London garden after the rain. And its “My Burberry” name isn’t just a cheeky moniker. Those who purchase the 90-milliliter eau de parfum can personalize the glass bottle with up to three initials, further fueling monogram obsessions everywhere.

The campaign also has a digital side. Customers have the ability to preview a giant replica of their monogrammed bottle on select billboards in London and New York via their smartphones. Not in either city? No worries. Just personalize a bottle and share it on your news feed.

With the holidays fast approaching, this fragrance is sure to be at the top of every perfume enthusiast’s wish list. (Hint, hint, Mom.)

Follow Back: Barbie Is Instagram’s Newest Member

Just when you thought Barbie had done it all, she’s back at it again. With over 150 careers on her résumé, the iconic doll’s newest endeavor might be her most fashionable one yet. Next month, Barbie will play Instagram street style sensation, taking on fashion weeks in four cities: New York, London, Milan, and Paris.

Under the handle @BarbieStyle, Barbie has already started documenting her #OOTDs, packing essentials, and accessories close-ups, as well as her favorite places in each fashion capital. Yup, shes got the blogger routine down.

Of course, this isn’t Barbie’s first time in the style ring. She’s collaborated with some of fashion’s finest – Karl Lagerfeld, Versace, and Vera Wang to name a few – and she also held a runway show in New York to celebrate her 50th anniversary. This year, she’ll kick off NYFW by co-hosting a party with the CFDA.

I followed this account quicker than I begged for that Barbie Dream House back in Christmas of 1993.

In Motion: Instagram’s Time-Lapse App Is Perfect for NYFW

Yesterday, Instagram launched a standalone app that will put your existing video uploads to shame. Called Hyperlapse, it lets users record time-lapse video from their iPhone®, accelerating footage anywhere from two to twelve times the normal speed. And it didn’t take long for the fashion set to realize it’ll be a handy New York Fashion Week Tool.

They Can’t Stop: Miley & Jeremy Are Teaming Up for NYFW

If gigantic teddy bears and cartoons are your thing, then you’re in for a treat. Miley Cyrus (well-known for both) and Moschino’s colorful tongue-in-cheek creative director Jeremy Scott have something big up their sleeves for New York Fashion Week.

At Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, Jeremy announced, “Miley and I have something very exciting we’re brewing up for the future.” He was tight-lipped about details, but revealed that the show will feature “a group of cool kids” instead of models.

No word yet on what they’re plotting, but I have some ideas. Miley had a homeless teen, Jesse Helt, accept her Moonman on her behalf to raise awareness for the issue. Could those be the cool kids Jeremy’s talking about? Will it involve another group of performers? Perhaps his show will use Miley’s Bangerz as a soundtrack? Only time will tell. Until then, the duo will have everyone (including the front row) on the edge of their seats.

Because I’m Happy: Models Smile for Fall Campaigns

Kate Moss for ELEVEN PARIS. Cara Delevingne for Burberry. Gisele Bündchen for Sonia Rykiel. Along with impeccably cozy style, this fall’s fashion models are sporting a parade of toothy grins – a welcome departure from the stoic, cold stares perpetuated by the 90s heroin-chic movement.

Perhaps it has something to do with Pharrell Williams’s insanely catchy tune. Or maybe big-name designers simply want to appear more approachable? Either way, I like this changeup. Bring on the happy.

At-Home Know-How: 3 Things to Try, Stat

For unwinding: Draw a relaxing bath. Just add dry lavender, epsom salt,  lavender essential oil, and eucalyptus essential oil to the tub.

For your bottom half: The best thing to scoop up at a thrift store, sample sale, or can’t-miss Rue La La Boutique? Skirts. They are one of the easiest items to tailor.

For aching feet: Rumor has it, you can alleviate stiletto pain by taping together your third and fourth toes.

Raise Your Glass: Kate Moss Celebrates 25 Years in Fashion

She’s dominated fashion spreads for a quarter century. And now? Kate Moss is toasting to her success with a champagne coupe molded from the shape of her bust. The British supermodel partnered with posh London restaurant 34 to create the personalized glass.

A little bizarre? Maybe. But it’s been done before. Rumor has it, the first champagne coupe ever made was modeled on Marie Antoinette’s left breast, which British artist Jane McAdam Freud used as inspiration for Kate’s modern version.

“I was excited to participate in this project…what an honor to be alongside Marie Antoinette – she was a very intriguing and mischievous character,” Kate said. “Champagne is always associated with celebration and happy occasions and I had fun creating this beautiful coupe.”

Come October, Kate will launch the creation at 34 and its sister restaurants The Ivy, Daphne’s, and Scott’s. As if I needed another excuse to book that trip to London…

Anna Wintour: The Ice (Bucket) Queen

You’ve seen the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral campaign raising money and awareness for ALS, on your feed and in the news. Nominees either post a video of themselves dumping ice on their heads or make a donation. The latest A-list participant? Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour.

This week, Anna was drenched in chilly water like a true champ, accepting a nomination from her daughter Bee Schaffer. And yes, she even kept her signature sunglasses on.

It looks like Anna will need to restyle her impeccable bob, stat. But for a good cause, we’re sure she won’t mind.

Health Beat: What’s Happening in the Get-Fit World

Consider this trio the exact opposite of leg warmers, Prancercise, and ThighMasters.

Health Beat

1. New at NYFW: Fitness Clothing

Sure, we’ve seen athletic-inspired clothing on the catwalk before. But for the first time ever a dedicated fitness brand, Athleta, will debut a line during September’s big event. And in true sporty fashion, the models are rumored to be doing everything but walking on the runway. Prep yourself for parkour, yoga, and dancing.

2. Fun Runs Are on the Rise

According to a recent report by Running USA, non-traditional running events are on the rise. Think mud, obstacles, and lots of paint. Since 2009, the number of fun-run finishers has grown from the low six figures to 4 million in 2013. And judging by the number of mud-splattered grins I see on Instagram every other week, this trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

3. You Can Lose Weight on Vacation

I know, I didn’t think it was possible either. But a resort located on sunny Hilton Head Island in South Carolina is all about it: Meet Hilton Head Health. Located on an 800-acre shipyard plantation, this weeklong weight-loss retreat tailors gourmet meals, fitness classes, and cooking demonstrations to each individual. Returning from vacay feeling better than when you left? Totally happening.

Check it out for yourself. Our Hilton Head Health – Hilton Head Island, SC Boutique opened Thursday, August 21, at 11AM ET.

On the Ball: Lacoste Launches New Tennis App

You’ve witnessed a home run at Yankee Stadium and seen Carly Rae Jepsen star in Cinderella. All that’s left to do? Find a free New York City tennis court to play on, obviously.

Preppy brand Lacoste’s latest app, City Tennis, aims to get you onto the courts of NYC by mitigating the where-to-play stress of private-club costs, public-court wait times, and limited court availability. Check out its court locator (with options in all five boroughs), or take in some between-set entertainment like player bios, an interactive game, and a shopping portal.

There’s no word yet on whether the posh service will branch out to other cities. But if you simply can’t make it to the Big Apple, there’s no harm in downloading the free app and pretending you’re about to crush an opponent in Manhattan, right?
