We’re so excited to (finally) give a warm Rue welcome to our new fashion director, Loredana. She has over 15 years in the industry, a knack for storytelling, a belief that fashion, above all, should be fun – and we couldn’t agree more. So we’re letting you in on all her secrets below, from style advice to her vintage obsession.

Loredana Buonopane

How did you get started in your career?
I hadn’t been to New York until I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. But I never thought I wouldn’t end up in fashion. I started interning nonstop for various publications and I ended up having an internship every semester. It was such an integral part of getting my foot in the door, making connections, and meeting my mentors.

Now that you’re a fashion director, what is a typical day like for you in the office?
I usually meet with the merchants in the morning to go over what the latest trends are and what they’re seeing in the market. Or I might also go to market myself. I’m constantly looking at blogs and Instagram for inspiration for new events that will excite the Rue Member – it’s amazing how much quicker it is than leafing through magazines!

You have a very coveted position – what’s your favorite part about what you do?
Seeing the story come to life! We put in so much effort, but it truly pays off when you see the finished product.

And what is your ideal wear-to-work outfit?
Because I’m a stylist by nature, I’m always dressing other people in very trendy, editorial looks. So when it comes to my own outfits, I usually stick to my standby menswear-inspired pieces. I love the easy borrowed-from-the-boys aesthetic. There’s nothing cleaner and more downright functional for hectic days than a button-front, boyfriend cardigan, and jeans.

What is one thing you never leave the house without (besides your favorite outfit)?
I never take off my jewelry. I like to layer personal items I’ve collected over the years (like my mother’s wedding band) and things I’ve picked up on my travels. It makes every outfit feel a little nostalgic (in a good way).

So is jewelry at the top of your holiday wish list?
Actually, it’s a toss-up between a Chanel black-and-gold sequined bag and some Givenchy biker boots. I’m obsessed with both. And, of course, another good year with my senior rescue dog, Lenny, who is 18 years old!

If you had to choose, what’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
I live my life by one simple thought: No is not really an option. I have just never really thought of not doing what I love. I always try to work from a place of yes, instead of questioning is this going to work?

Last, but not least: if you didn’t have this career, what would you be doing?
I’d probably become a hoarder of vintage clothing. I used to sell my stuff as a hobby on the weekends and I really enjoyed it.

Now that you’ve been introduced, it’s time to shop her picks. Our Loredana’s Holiday Picks: Chosen by Our Fashion Director Boutique opens Saturday, November 28, at 3PM ET.

Good tailoring never goes out of style, and neither do menswear-inspired pieces. Has there ever been anything as cool as a woman in a chic suit? We think not. Master the art of androgynous dressing by investing in these three key pieces.

Menswear-Inspired StyleThe Pantsuit
Go tonal and tailored. For a hint of femininity, look to funky oversized buttons and a sharp V-necked jacket.

Menswear-Inspired Style

The Boyfriend Blazer
A.k.a., an all-season staple that can replace any old cardigan. Balance the oversized shape by keeping one piece of your look fitted (like your pants).

Menswear-Inspired Style

The Oxford Shoe
Practical, sophisticated, and downright comfy. Pair these lace-up flats with cropped bottoms to show a hint of ankle for the most flattering effect.

It’s your turn to get the look. Our Borrowed from the Boys: Menswear-Inspired Style Boutique opens Monday, November 23, at 11AM ET.

When it comes to winter fashion, what you’re wearing on the outside does count. So rather than just covering up your outfit, opt for a topper that complements your look. With a little inspo from three on-trend celebrities, you’ll be braving the elements in style.

Kate Moss Jacket

All hail the queen of fashion and her toughened-up approach to outerwear. A cropped faux fur jacket layered over a head-to-toe black outfit is the coolest way to keep warm without sacrificing your It girl factor.

Olivia Palermo Coat

Leave it to this socialite to make a down parka look chic. Take her cue and try a bold-hued puffer for weekend activities. Kick it up a notch with cozy details (like a faux fur trim), which elevate an otherwise technical-looking coat.

Reese Witherspoon Coat

It doesn’t get more timeless than a tailored wool topper. Echo this actress by going for a traditional color palette with personality-adding extras, like an asymmetrical zipper or leather trim.

Now take on the cold with confidence. Our Outerwear Inspired by Celebs: Snag Their Style Boutique opens Friday, November 20th, at 11AM ET.

In the glamorous world of Fox’s hit show Empire, main character Cookie Lyon’s opulent vibe redefines what it means to be a power dresser. Whether rocking a confidence-boosting outfit or conquering the world from her meticulously furnished office, we can’t get enough (as in, we never miss an episode). Read on for a peek into Cookie’s over-the-top career look – for both her closet and the workplace.

Cookie Lyons Empire Style

In the Closet
When it comes to Cookie’s personal fashion choices, there is no difference between work and play. Her walk-in is filled with pieces that are loud and sometimes a little risqué, just like her – animal print and faux fur, anyone? But this season, her flashy aesthetic evolves beyond her trademark look (statement bling, bedazzled dresses, and fierce makeup) to include tamer separates, tailored blazers, and even (shocker!) denim.

Cookie Lyons Empire Office

At the Office
Cookie’s interior-design sensibilities are as decadent as her clothing style. Both of her offices – at Empire Entertainment last season and Lyon Dynasty this year – are decorated entirely in a neutral color palette with touches of purple and gold (a.k.a. the colors of royalty and power). Larger-than-life prints make an appearance on curtains and rugs, while her furniture choices are modern, sleek, and straight-up regal.

Now it’s your turn to go bold. Take a cue from Cookie and shop our Get the Look: Style Inspired by Cookie from Empire Boutique, which opens Wednesday, November 18th, at 11AM ET.

Power dressing has always stood for women’s equality in the workplace. But today, this authoritative look has taken on a more borrowed-from-the-boys vibe, where menswear-inspired pieces are mixed with figure-flattering details (far from the ill-fitting separates found in our moms’ 1980s closets). Ready to take this look into 2015? We break down the dos and don’ts below.

Power Dressing

Do look to colorblocking.
A small pop of color goes a long way. When worked into the lapel of a jacket, this statement-making touch will give you extra oomph in the conference room.

Do put a belt on it.
Hiding your shape isn’t what this trend is all about. Flaunt your curves no matter the outfit – try a skinny belt over a blazer, or high-waisted trousers nipped in above the hips.

Don’t bring back the shoulder pads.
Strong shoulders are still essential. But this time, look for a suit that naturally showcases the silhouette without any extra padding. The key here? Razor-sharp tailoring and high-quality fabric.

You’re well on your way to smashing that glass ceiling. Our Runway Report: Power Dressing Is Having a Moment Boutique opens Wednesday, November 18th, at 11AM ET.

Take one peek at the street-style scene, and it’s hard to ignore that menswear-inspired looks are trending in a big way. But the truth is, they have never really gone out of fashion. And for that, we have Katharine Hepburn to thank. Pioneering the borrowed-from-the-boys vibe long before it was a thing, she taught us, “If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.” Leading by example, she favored boyfriend trousers, blazers, and loafers, much like the trendsetters of today. The key to recreating her iconic look? A rebellious attitude and the five pieces below.

Katharine Hepburn Style

  1. Printed Tote
With a black plaid print, this boxy leather carryall nods to the American sportswear aesthetic, which Katharine was said to inspire.
  2. Leather-Strap Watch
Unlike the traditional bracelet style, this more masculine timepiece adds a touch of androgyny to any outfit.
  3. Embossed Moccasins
Behold: Hepburn’s go-to shoes. Take her cue and wear them peeking out from under roomy pants.
  4. Cashmere Sweater
Layered beneath a blazer or tucked into trousers, this super-soft turtleneck could have been plucked from Katharine’s closet.
  5. Wide-Leg Trouser
As her signature piece, these flowing pants helped pave the way for women everywhere to ditch their dresses and sport an unconventional look.

Take a cue from this rule breaker and shop our Style Icon: Classic Looks Inspired by Katharine Hepburn Boutique, which opens Sunday, November 15th, at 11AM ET.

If we could hop in a time machine and teleport back to any decade, it would be the 60s. Aside from the obvious – The Beatles, hello – we’re obsessed with the era’s standout fashion. And lucky for us (and you!) the mod look has found its way back in vogue. So, we’ve teamed up with our favorite Brits over at Boden to highlight three modern updates to the UK-born trend.

Boden Shift DressThe Printed Shift
First made popular on the streets of London, this dress has taken a sophisticated turn. In place of boldly printed fabrics? Italian tweed with frayed edges.

Boden Swing Coat The Graphic Coat
With a daring print, this topper could have been plucked right from Twiggy‘s closet. But its streamlined silhouette makes this jacket undoubtedly 2015.

Boden Mini Skirt
The Wool Mini
Featuring sleek lines and a simple shape, the mini is here to stay. Just substitute the bold colors in Mary Quant‘s original designs with fresh hues to make this skirt delightfully of the moment.

Give retro a nod. Our Boden & Mini Boden Boutique opens Friday, November 13, at 11AM ET.

Australia’s beloved athletic brand has made its way to America. Lorna Jane boasts on-trend gear and a cult following – we’re basically already fanatics. Founded by fitness instructor-turned-designer Lorna Jane Clarkson, this line offers sweat-ready pieces created with an active lifestyle in mind.

Lorna Jane Activewear

When Lorna’s clients started asking for her hand-sewn designs, she realized that creating gym clothing was her calling. Infused with personality and the trademarked LJ Excel performance fabric (hello, moisture-wicking bliss), her styles are functional, flattering, and – most importantly – fashionable. Think: draped knits, harem pants, graphic tees, and printed leggings that work from lunges to lattes and back.

Now get ready to sweat in style. Our Lorna Jane Boutique opens Friday, November 13, at 11AM ET.

If you haven’t already heard, Hollywood’s power couple is reuniting on the big screen today – yes, as in right this minute. And we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to recreate their equally photographable style. Below, we show you how to get each of their looks for both day and night.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Style

By day: Sophisticated yet pared down, her daytime look is all about minimal makeup, elevated separates, and a neutral color palette. For the office, try a pencil skirt and a jacket in an unexpected silhouette, then ground the look with classic pointed-toe pumps.

By night: Angie’s stunning red-carpet style is reminiscent of Old Hollywood glamour with a decidedly fashion-forward twist (remember that famous right leg?). For black-tie affairs, opt for her signatures: a menswear-inspired tux jacket and trousers or a cascading gown with a thigh-high slit. Then add a bold red lip and loose, tousled waves to finish off the look.

By day: When he’s not killing it on-screen, his everyday look comes in the form of tonal layers (just like his wife’s). For the 9-to-5, go with a navy suit and white shirt – unbuttoned ever so slightly. Forgo the belt and tie to keep things more casual.

By night: When the occasion calls for it, Brad’s suiting style is always on point. Channel his look with a sleek tuxedo or dapper suit in a conservative silhouette. Then add modern details like a metallic-finish tie or an unconventional pocket square.

Now it’s your turn in the spotlight. Take a cue from the dynamic duo and shop our Meet the Pitts: Style Inspired by Brad & Angelina Boutique, which opens Friday, November 13th, at 11AM ET.
