Rue Social Correspondent Allison Shares Her Mom’s Story
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we checked in with Rue Social Correspondent Allison about her experiences with her mother’s battle with breast cancer.
“Although Breast Cancer Awareness month is coming to an end, it is important to remember year round to encourage the women in your life to take action in fighting this awful disease. My mom is a 3-year cancer survivor and is vigilant in making sure that all the women in her life get their mammograms. Her diligence in scheduling annual mammograms for herself was instrumental in identifying an aggressive cancerous tumor in her left breast at an early stage. Although it was a difficult diagnosis to hear, and treatment involved the loss of her breast, she focused on staying positive and having faith, which is the key to dealing with challenges in life. Our family is so grateful for the early detection, and I really admire my mom for her strength as she went through this difficult process.”
We started to realize that Rue Social Correspondent Katie had some (very) particular rules when it comes to getting dressed each morning, so we asked her to put them in writing. Curious about when to break out your cords and ear muffs? Just consult her strict schedule.
Last weekend Amy, our Concierge and Social Correspondent hit the orchard for an afternoon of apple picking and New England fall scenery.
Her après picking spread:
The orchard’s own wine, Maiden’s Blush (made from pears and apples with a hint of elderberries)
Homemade baguettes
Savory cheeses: smoked gouda, apricot ginger goat cheese, and apple smoked gruyère
Pinot Grigio sausage
Plum preserve
The freshest of apples (of course)
To make it feel even more special when you’re trying it out on your own, pack along your favorite picnic blanket and don’t forget the corkscrew.
Social Correspondent Allison asks about the (I) dos and don’ts for every wedding scenario
When you’ve been invited to share in someone’s special day (be it a friend, sister, or second cousin twice removed), choosing chicken or beef on the RSVP is just the first of many decisions you’ll be asked to make (not to mention the easiest). Our Social Correspondent Allison sat down with The Knot for the answers to all our wedding-guest woes.
Allison: How much should I spend on a wedding gift for a not-so-close friend? The Knot: It depends on your relationship, what you’re comfortable spending, and your regional area, but a good rule of thumb is $75 to $100.
Rue’s Facebook page just got a facelift. It’s everything we loved before, but now with an extra Rue twist. Our favorite part? Rue’s all new Social Correspondents. Fans will now get a glimpse into the stylish lives – in and out of the office – of six Rue Associates on the move: Chris, Katie, Allison, Jody, Colin, and Amy. These insiders will show Fans what goes down on the other side of the screen.
Other Facebook perks that we’re loving: Rue-isms to pass onto friends, lots of behind-the-scene video, fun quotes, and more. So be sure to like us on Facebook and say hello to our Social Correspondents. And if you’re a Twitter lover (like we are), follow the whole crew:
