Are Hipsters Fading? eBay Data Thinks So

According to Esquire, eBay’s sales numbers suggest hipsterdom is on its way out. Razor sales are up 56% (hipster scruff, be gone). Clear-framed glasses are also seeing a new-found sales increase, in lieu of those thick black rims. And the messenger bag? It’s been replaced by the 90s-inspired leather backpack.

The hipster phenomenon Topman even rocked faded boot-cut denim during its Spring and Summer 2015 runways. That’s quite the opposite of skinny jeans if you ask me. But I’m not totally convinced that eBay’s “evidence” of hipster extinction is exactly that. Perhaps our idea of “hipster” is simply being redefined. Or maybe, just maybe, said hipsters have moved on from online auctions to flash sales…

Shear Determination: How the Power Bob Is Taking Over

We’ve all heard it before: First impressions matter. And guess what? Your hairstyle plays a big part in those initial make-or-break 30 seconds. If you’re looking for a haircut that screams, “I’m the girl for the job,” opting for a short bob – also known as the “Power Bob” – might be your best bet.

Here Comes the Bride: Jessica Simpson Weds in Carolina Herrera

Jessica Simpson may mistake tuna for chicken and wings for actual buffalo, but when it comes to fashion, our favorite blonde bombshell knows her stuff. Take her wedding dress, for example. This weekend, she donned a Caroline Herrera gown to marry longtime beau Eric Johnson.

A Twist on the Classics: Olivia Palermo’s Wedding “Dress”

Here comes the bride. Twenty-eight-year-old beauty and fashion mogul Olivia Palermo tied the knot this weekend with her beau, Johannes Huebl, the German model (not bad) she’s been dating since 2008. The ceremony? Small and intimate. The dress? Nonexistent.

That’s right. After months of debate – will she wear Cavalli? Valentino? – Palermo landed on a Carolina Herrera “dress” that was, in fact, not a dress at all. Just a light cashmere sweater and tulle skirt over simple shorts. A bold choice, yet would you expect anything less of the trendsetter?

Her “something blue”? The same Manolos Carrie Bradshaw married Mr. Big in during the Sex and the City movie. Turns out the flick is an old favorite of Palermo’s. (No runaway bride for Johannes, fortunately.)

Yeezus Walks: Kanye West Does Community Service at Fashion School

Back in March, Kayne West pleaded no contest to attacking a photographer. His sentence? Two hundred fifty hours of community service that he kicked off on Monday – in style.

Kanye West Paris Spring 2013 fashion week stree style

Instead of donning the traditional orange jumpsuit while picking up trash, Yeezy gave his time to students at Los Angeles Trade Technical College to talk about his experience in the fashion industry – for three hours. Which means only 247 hours to go for Mr. West. And while we’re not sure where his sentence will take him next, visits to other schools are expected.

Leave it to Kanye to use his community service as another means to infiltrate the fashion industry.

Head on over to Harper’s BAZAAR for more on Kanye’s community service.

Nick Wooster: From Instagram to Instant Fame

If you don’t know him yet, say hello to Nick Wooster, your new Instagram obsession and the man behind an all-new capsule collab with Italian brand Lardini. Wooster has been heating up Instagram feeds for some time now. With well over 200,000 followers, he claims Instagram is his 401(k). But for those of you who are just now making his acquaintance, let’s take a quick look at the guy some call “the most photographed man in menswear.”

Nick Wooster: From Instagram to Instant Fame

His Resume
It’s anything but lacking. Buyer at Barneys. Design director at Ralph Lauren. President of John Bartlett. Trend development officer at JCPenney. Plus fashion director at Neiman Marcus. Recently added to his job creds? The debut of his new capsule collection Wooster + Lardini, which drew a crowd of over 1,000. (Oh, and did we mention that the New York Times just did a whole feature on him?)

His Style
Although Wooster claims he “would never, ever call [himself] a designer,” others boldly disagree, going as far to call him “the Cher of men’s fashion.” What others wouldn’t dare to try or even think of, he manages to pull off. He takes fashion for what it truly is – experimenting and creating, just as a DJ would with mash-ups. By incorporating various elements and styles, he has made an impact on a global scale and invigorated the fashion world with his bold sense of self and outfit choices.

No wonder photographers wait around corners and bloggers plaster his face over the web.

Get your phone out and follow @nickwooster. Then, head over to the New York Times to learn more about him.

Cracking the Code: High Schoolers Protest Dress Restrictions

We all remember the days of being called to the principal’s office. Whether it was for colorful socks (if you went to private school) or a short skirt, pushing dress-code limits was a part of high school life. But, today? Teenage girls aren’t standing for it.

The Gang’s All Here: Johnny Depp to Film in Boston This Summer

Earlier this morning, PEOPLE reported sightings of Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp (as if he needs an introduction) and fiancée Amber Heard browsing the poetry section of the well-known Brattle Book Shop in Boston’s Downtown Crossing. Why? Because they’re making a tour of the country’s oldest bookstores? Nope. Depp will be spending the summer in Beantown filming Black Mass, the Warner Bros.–backed story of infamous South Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger.

And Bostonians, there’s even better news. Boston Magazine has released the filming dates and locations of Black Mass.  And not just the general area, but the exact addresses and street corners. Now, if you’re new to Rue La La, you may not realize that our offices are located in the now-fairly-gentrified South Boston neighborhood. So, will I be proposing a team outing to said street corners? Yes. Yes, I will.

La Perla Acts Fast to Squash Mannequin Drama

Yesterday, lingerie label La Perla came under fire for one of its SoHo storefront displays. The controversy was sparked after a passerby, entrepreneur Michael Rudoy, tweeted an image (which later went viral) captioned, “How does #LaPerla think ribs on a mannequin is ok?!”

La Perla Storefront

Within hours of the initial tweet, La Perla took to Twitter to announce that the mannequin had been taken down and would “not be used again by any La Perla boutique.”

Now, this isn’t the first time mannequin size has been an issue. JCPenney, Zara, and many other brands have been criticized for similar offenses in the past. What sets La Perla apart, however, is how swiftly it was to act. Personally, I’m giving the label props for such a punctual – and respectful – response. Its social media team definitely proved that 140 characters can buy you class when it comes to controversy.

Check out to see the photo and get the full scoop.
