Grab Your Phone & Take an Hermès Tie Break

To all of you out there who dream in orange boxes, whose hearts go thud-thud with the sight of that signature H, lend me your ear: There’s an app for that. For men and women alike, it’s deliciously fun to play with. Introducing Tie Break, Hermès’s recently launched smartphone app designed “to help you take a break from the harsh realities of office, airport, or public transport…or even a dull date” with “a random dose of Hermès.” Tie break

In essence, it’s a quippy little exercise in Hermès tie knowledge-building, made fun through GIFs, games, and comics. Each time you open the app, a new one of these “surprises” will be waiting for you. Use it as a way to wean off of 2048 and CandyCrush, or to read up on the differences between Hermès’s collection of luxe silk neckties – so you can make an educated decision on your next purchase. Download the Tie Break app here. P.S. Be patient with the download. It’s far more turtle than hare. But we all know who wins that race. By Joanna Berliner, Editor

By Nicole Andrew, Rue La La Fashion Editor

Tweed blazers, suede satchels, and classic denim are the modern schoolgirl’s essentials. Take note of the collegiate touches spotted on the fall runways (like that of Marissa Webb) and rule the office hallways with these tailored wardrobe updates.

Most-Coveted---(AUG8)

1. Hermès Watch. You won’t miss a beat with this pre-loved investment piece.
2. NARS Casablanca Satin Lipstick. Pick up this peachy hue for an understated pop of color.
3. Enzo Angiolini Leather Pump. Finish your outfit with black pumps – the extended heel gives this pair a modern twist.
4. Pippa Blazer. Team this blazer with a slouchy tank and dark denim for an effortless and polished look.
5. Jimmy Choo Satchel. Fashion or function? No need to sacrifice one for the other. This taupe number does it all.

Be the Best-Dressed Man: How to Master Cocktail & Black-Tie Attire

The wedding invite has been haphazardly stuck to the fridge for weeks now. But that call for cocktail or black-tie attire? You know you’ve been completely ignoring it. And now it’s officially time to prepare. So relax and read on – we’re going to tell you how to nail it.

BLG-2130_wedding

Cocktail: When the dress code requests cocktail attire, you have some room for creativity. Opt for a dark suit (think navy or charcoal), then have some fun with your shirt-and-tie combination. Try a solid color or a subtle pinstriped dress shirt with a punchy silk tie in a paisley or diagonal-stripe print.

Black Tie: This sounds intimidating, but embrace the ease of what is essentially a fancy-wedding uniform. Grab a black tuxedo – with silk lapels and a trim fit for a slimming, modern vibe – then add a crisp white dress shirt, black tie or bow tie, and shined-up black dress shoes. Voilà, done.

Ready to get dressed? Our Best (Dressed) Man: Style for Late-Summer Weddings Boutique opened Thursday, August 7, at 11AM ET.

Monique Lhuillier Designs Custom Gown for Mom

Over the weekend, famed bridal designer Monique Lhuillier debuted a custom gown that satisfied both “something old” and “something new” – but don’t expect to see it in the pages of PEOPLE with her many other celebrity creations. This gown was personal, a stunning number made for her own mother to wear during her parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.

The extravagant gown featured lace from her mother’s original wedding dress, along with a beaded antique-gold overlay (appropriate considering this is the golden anniversary after all). The designer dutifully captured the vow renewal on Instagram, including the long train and bejeweled hairpiece that accessorized the dress. But the best post of all? A picture of her gorgeous mother from 50 years earlier.

Insta-Gold: @Copylab Shakes Up History with Fashion

The term “art history” brings back near-torturous memories of freshman year. But take those iconic (and yes, occasionally yawn-inducing) works of art and add luxury items? Now you have my attention, and that of the hilarious Instagram account @copylab.

Bold Prints, Bright Hues: Meet Your New Gym Look

Next time you’re running the trails or hitting the gym, take a look around. In case you haven’t already noticed, when it comes to athletic clothing, brights and prints are taking over. Why? They’re fun, bold, and give that extra kick of motivation. Here’s how to incorporate them into your workout.

BLG-2125-Reebok

For Women:
Pair big prints with small. Try a legging in an allover high-contrast design (you can get away with it, promise) topped with a tank in a quieter one.

For Men:
Energize your routine with masculine, tech-driven patterns. Think gradients and abstract maps on either top or bottom – never both at the same time.

Start loading up on prints and color. Our Reebok Boutique opened Wednesday, August 6, at 11AM ET.

Peek Inside: A Marc Jacobs Bag in the Making

Ever wondered what goes into making the latest It bag? I know I have, especially when confronted with price tags in the quadruple digits. Sumptuous leather and signature hardware aside, it’s the craftsmanship behind these totable works of art that commands such a devoted following (and the inevitable sticker shock). One such iconic style is the now-defunct Marc Jacobs Stam bag, and the designer is at it again with his latest release: the customizable Incognito. To mark the launch, Marc’s team transports us to its Milan studio in a mesmerizing video that showcases the making of these bags.

The new style is constructed out of 124 pieces (yes, that many). Patterns are traced, leather is cut, and components are sewn together, all by hand, and the process is chronicled in the clip. Now, the only handiwork I can contribute is actually getting my paws on one of these in-demand satchels.

It’s Happening: Coach Shoes for Men

Men, rejoice. Even the uninitiated know that Coach has long been a dominating force when it comes to women’s bags and shoes. And though the brand has dipped its toes into the menswear world in the past, it’s now getting ready to fully dive in. How? By launching its first full collection of men’s shoes.

Coach-Men-Shoe-Collection

What can you expect? Fifteen styles – think oxfords, monkstraps, chukkas, and more – in Italian leather and suede. As Greg Unis, Coach’s senior vice president of men’s global merchandising, told WWD“We’ve had men’s shoes in our stores in the past but haven’t gone after a full collection until now. The goal for launching [these shoes] is to continue to grow the lifestyle expression of our brand. There’s such a natural connection between leatherwear and craftsmanship [and] the cool aesthetic we have, and bringing that collection is the natural next step.”

Shoes range from $185 to $495 and will be available at all Coach stores come September. (Just the excuse I need to drag my significant other into the store with me.)
