Leaving Lincoln Center: Why Designers Are Moving Their Runways

First it was Oscar de la Renta. Now it’s Vera Wang – and possibly Carolina Herrera. Yes, one by one it seems designers are opting out of Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. Why? As Herrera told the New York Times, it’s all “gotten too commercial.”

Fashion Week

And Herrera isn’t alone: several designers have spoken out recently against Lincoln Center’s out-of-date tents, overwhelming presence of street-style celebs, and increasingly high costs. IMG Fashion (which runs Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week), however, is working to rectify the situation – promising designers revamped sound and lighting and more exclusive guests lists. But will it work, or will this be the end of Lincoln Center as we know it? Ms. Wang, it’s your move.

15 Things Every Woman Needs, According to The Man Repeller

My obsession with all things Man Repeller has already been established. And her just-published list of the 15 things every woman should have? It completely reaffirmed my love for Leandra (I like to imagine we’re on a first-name basis).

With “at least one Beyoncé CD” (I have three), “a pair of frivolous if not completely decadent bought-on-the-whim shoes” (see, Mom, I told you I needed them), and my favorite – “a pair of balls that belonged to man who didn’t deserve to keep them” (you know who you are) – all making the list, it’s not just about style, but power and confidence. And, most importantly, it’s simply a fun list that doesn’t make women feel inadequate, unlike other lists making the Internet rounds.

Check out the Man Repeller’s full list on Harper’s BAZAAR.

Get Glowing: Celebrate Confidence & Fitness at Boston’s lucy Light Forest, October 3 – 13

That feel-good, confident vibe you get from working out – what would it look like if you could see it? Answer: Over 10,000 twinkling LED lights illuminating Boston’s Esplanade trail – a hot spot for the city’s joggers.

Okay, so maybe not exactly like that, but that’s what we saw as we walked through this solar-powered scene to the lucy Light Forest opening celebrations last night.

Welcome to Brimfield 2013

A peek inside our VIP tent at the world's biggest outdoor antique show

We’re suckers for pretty much any shopping opportunity. Now add a market filled with one-of-a-kind antiques as far as the eye can see, bartering shoppers, and a poshed-out VIP tent to catch your breath in between deal-making, and you can call this utopia. Here’s a glimpse inside.

Check Out: The VIP Tent
Serving as a refuge from the outdoor bustle, this is the kind of tent we can really get behind (sleeping bags, bugs, and campfires totally optional).

Check Out: The Bar
Interior designer Shane Inman used Benjamin Moore paint to line the insides of the hundreds of bottles that adorn the bar. Who knew – all it takes to energize a space is a little color (okay, a lot of color).

Escape Plan: My Agenda for Lake Austin Spa Resort

A sneak peek into a week at this Texas oasis

Come mid-February, I’m in dire need of a vacation – with a to-do list that includes enough time to relax, de-stress, and learn something new. Luckily, Lake Austin Spa Resort has more than enough to get my rejuvenation going without abandoning my New Year’s resolutions. Besides the extensive list of mind-body classes, there are spa treatments, cooking demos (I need to work on my pasta-making), and discovery classes (think astronomy and Tarot card reading) to keep me blissfully unaware of the outside world. Now all I need is more time in a week….
