FROM FRENCH FASHION TO MICK JAGGER, HERE’S WHAT WE’RE BUZZING ABOUT THIS WEEK

Know: After much industry speculation, Dior has named Raf Simons their new artistic director. Simon’s first couture collection for the storied French fashion house will show in July – we’ll be waiting with bated breath.
Check Out: Letters of Note, a website dedicated to gathering fascinating letters, postcards, telegrams, and… you get the idea. This week, they featured a letter from Keith Richards, writing to tell his aunt about an encounter with a man named Mick. (Jagger, that is.) The rest is Rolling Stone’s history.
Try: Liquid liner tapes for the perfect cat eye. We’ll admit, we were hesitant about the whole nail tape trend, but look how that turned out (we LOVE them).
Discuss: The new HBO series Girls. A look into the life of post-college twentysomethings trying to make it NYC, the witty half-hour show has the potential to make it into our Sunday night lineup.

Join the Party with a Twitter Contest & an Extra Dose of Style

Rue is turning 4! To celebrate in true Rue fashion, we’ve pulled together two Boutiques packed with party-ready essentials: pretty serveware (cupcakes, anyone?) and equally pretty dresses. Take a peek at some behind-the-scenes shots above for a closer look at the (seriously delicious) action in the photo studio.
And for the icing on the (birthday) cake, we’re doing a Twitter contest on Monday, April 9. From 10AM to 4PM ET, we’ll tweet one question each hour relating to the day’s Boutiques. Answer correctly with the hashtag #happybdayrue to @RueLaLa and you’ll be entered to win a $40 Rue credit – we’ll be choosing one winner each hour. Read full terms and conditions here. Good luck!

RUE ATTENDS THE HARRIS CENTER’S 15TH ANNUAL PUBLIC FORUM

Here at Rue, it’s no secret that we value beauty, confidence, and being yourself. So when we heard about The Harris Center’s 15th Annual Public Forum, Health is Beauty: Defining Ourselves, we jumped at the opportunity to attend. With a star-studded roster (four Rue staffers shown here with Franca Sozzani, center, Italian Vogue Editrix), empowering teen mentors, and engaging personal stories, we couldn’t help but be inspired.
THE EVENT: The Harris Center’s 15th Annual Public Forum, Health is Beauty: Defining Ourselves
WHAT: An annual public forum focusing on body image and the media.
WHEN: April 2
WHERE: Harvard University
Dr. Herzog, Director of the Harris Center & internationally renowned expert in the field of eating disorders
“The public is to be informed … Young people are the greatest concern. For the public, there should be more dialogue around the subject. The public needs to take a more active role. Eating disorders are not just a problem of the fashion industry.”

A CLOSER LOOK AT (GORGEOUS) CONFLICT-FREE DIAMONDS
We’re pretty sure April is the best month to be born for two reasons: not only is it Rue’s birthday month, but the birthstone is the obsession-worthy diamond. To celebrate, we’re ushering in The Month of Sparkle with weekly diamond Boutiques – because who couldn’t use a little extra sparkle?
When it comes to our diamond jewelry, we need the history behind the stunners to be as pure and unclouded as the stones themselves. With that in mind, we did some research on the Kimberley Process – a network of about 75 (and growing) countries and governments who are committed to diminishing the trade of “conflict” (or “blood”) diamonds, which can fund violent rebel movements. Started in 2003, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme certifies rough diamonds as conflict-free and fit for legitimate trade – making our diamonds beautiful both inside and out.
