What’s in Your Suitcase? 4 Outfits to Carry You Through Any Summer Vacation

You’ve finally booked that summer vacation (yay!). Now all that’s left to do is pack. To outfit your itinerary to a T, take a look at these four getaway-ready ensembles. Bon voyage!

Juicy_blog_image[1]

For the Plane
Take flight in a sleek, all-black velour tracksuit. It’s chic and incredibly comfy, helping five-hour trips fly by.

For Sightseeing
Don a bold printed dress (yes, it’s totally okay to steal the spotlight from the sights) and make sure to bring a large tote to fill with off-the-beaten-path scores.

For Beach Days
Pack a bright bikini and an unconventional cover-up – like the turquoise zip-up above – and you’ll be sure to stand out.

For Dinner Alfresco
Little black dresses are great – but little blue ones? Even better. Add a jacket to drape over your shoulders when the breeze hits.

Our Juicy Couture Boutique opens Tuesday, June 4, at 11AM ET.

Sunglasses are crucial to summer style. They shield your eyes from the sun and look good doing it. What’s not to love? But choosing the right shape is key to playing up your best features. So whether your face is oval, round, square, or heart-shaped, here’s a guide to picking the best frames for you.

Vacation Basics: His & Her Style, from Beach to Boardwalk

It’s time to start packing for those planned-months-ago summer getaways. And if there’s one thing I know, it’s that ensembles need to be tailored to specific activities. (I just gave away that I’m an overpacker, didn’t I?)

Everyone knows what to wear on the sand, so dig out all those bikinis, swim trunks, one-pieces, and board shorts. But when it comes to boardwalk-lunching, pier-wandering, and late-night adventures, the area becomes a little grey. Until now:

A Penchant for Prints: Tips to Rocking This Season’s Best Ones

BLG-1510

Simple floral prints are always in bloom – but this summer it’s time to up the ante. I’m talking bold graphics, romantic watercolors, and unexpected abstracts. Check out the tips below, then start piling them on.

  1. When donning head-to-toe prints, makeup and accessories should take a back seat. Look to a nude lip and neutral shoes.
  2. Don’t be afraid to mix and match. Go artful on top and graphic on the bottom. Once you have mixing down pat, just think of all the potential wardrobe combos that await in your closet.
  3. The easiest way to freshen up a bland outfit? A printed clutch. Whether you’re in all black or all white, a zigzag bag will quickly spruce things up.

The Cutest Little Shoes You’ve Seen All Week

Flowered peep-toes. Velvet spat boots. Cuffed booties. Behold, shoes I imagine Suri Cruise would wear unabashedly and with abandon. Shoes that walk the line – as the best grown-up versions do – of function and pure delight.

Here, Jessica Haley of Joyfolie (the woman behind the shoes) fills me in on everything and anything about these adorable little pieces.

Joyfolie

Your shoes are downright adorable. What would you say sets them apart from the pack?
I’d dub our shoes unapologetically feminine, thoughtfully detailed, and meticulously packaged. Each pair comes in a drawer box with a styled image of the shoes inside and a matching hair clip, too. When I began the company, I didn’t aspire to grow so quickly or even grow at all, in the beginning. I was just delighted that customers loved my shoes enough to keep buying them. Often, as a thank you, I made clips out of the scraps from the handmade shoes. As we grew into a manufactured line, I wanted to continue that same expression of gratitude, which is why we continue to offer a clip with every pair of shoes.

So, how did it all start?
I used to describe Joyfolie as my “hobby run amok,” which is to say, when it first began, I had no intentions of starting a company. I handmade a pair of booties for my daughter when she was an infant and on a whim, put a pair for sale on Etsy. In a short period of time, I had celebrity purchases, press in some great national magazines, and an overwhelming amount of wholesale orders. I handmade literally thousands of booties to fund our own growth, first making them myself, then hiring a team to hand-make them in the United States, and eventually transitioned into full-scale manufacturing to accommodate the volume we needed.

I’d take it then that your shoes are no longer handmade?
Oh, lands, no!  I do not miss those days!  I love to create, but I am more of a big-picture thinker. Back in those day, I would sew until 2 or 3 in the morning every night because my children were small at the time and that’s when I could work most efficiently. I would get bored making the same shoes over and over. Back then, counting the rubber of the soles and layers in the lining, a pair of handmade shoes (like this one) had 17 layers of fabric to make them stiff!!

Just throwing it out there – as a little girl I would have fallen head over heels for these. Is there a particular little girl you design for?
I design with every little girl in mind!  Whether it’s sparkly pink loafers or silver sandals or brown studded boots, it’s my hope that we have enough variety for every little girl’s preference and that Joyfolie shoes make her feel happy and special.

Where do you picture her going in these?
Traveling to meet a queen, trekking up a mountain, sipping tea with The Three Bears – that’s where my daughter tells me she wears hers!

And, next steps. What’s up for Joyfolie in the future?
Joyfolie is growing so fast… every new season I am both amazed and humbled by how much we are growing. As we grow, that enables us to expand into new product lines. We have some women’s boots coming out this fall that I am particularly proud of!

What Are You (Really) Wearing? So. Many. Stripes.

With Memorial Day weekend in our rear view and the official kickoff to summer style underway, bold stripes have made their annual return to our closets. Here, we talk the past and present of three of the season’s most iconic renditions.

What are you really wearing? Stripes.

What are you really wearing? Stripes.

Nautical Stripes
This alternating pattern of blue and white began in the 19th century as the standard issue uniform for the French Navy. Their goal? To help the crew spot sailors who fell overboard. Today, it’s hard to retreat to any summer locale without spotting this timeless navy-inspired design.

Rugby Stripes
Comprised of thick, horizontal stripes in bold, alternating colors, contemporary rugby stripes are inspired by (you guessed it) the sport’s traditional polo-style jerseys. The stripes went mainstream in the 1950s, as Americans borrowed this sporty look from friends across the pond.

Chevron Stripes
This eye-catching zigzag stripe ranks high among patterns with military roots. By definition, it’s an inverted V-shape used on military badges to indicate rank or denote length of service. Today, it’s ever-present in the world of fashion (thanks, Missoni). Find it splashed everywhere, from sundresses to pillows.

Mani Monday: Boston Skyline Nails

mani_monday[1]

This manicure is a fun tribute to a beautiful and strong city: Boston. Whichever city you live in, follow the steps below to create your own skyline.

What You’ll Need:

The How-To:

  1. Paint your nails with two coats of white nail polish and let dry.
  2. Using the black nail art pen, draw the outline of buildings using vertical and horizontal rectangles, starting at the center of the nail. Do this for every nail except the thumbs.
  3. Draw scattered squares inside the “buildings” for the windows.
  4. Fill in the “buildings” (careful not to color in the “windows”).
  5. On the thumbs, write “I” and “Boston” (or your city of choice) using the black nail pen.
  6. With the red nail pen, draw a small heart in between the two words. Let dry.
  7. Finish with a clear top coat.

The Polo Fit Guide: Summer Friday’s Staple, Decoded

Hey, stud. It’s Summer Friday. Oh wait, just kidding. It’s Monday. But you have the day off. (You best be BBQing.) So prep yourself for a season of short-sleeved occasions with these quick tips for finding the perfect-fitting polo. It’s warm weather’s #1 essential, after all.

Polo Shirt

First off – said polo should be formfitting, without being tight. No one likes to see the undercup of your pecs. (That’s what going shirtless at the beach is for.) Perfect un-tightness means:

  • Sleeve: You can fit at least one finger between the sleeve and your bicep.
  • Armholes: Neither too tight nor too loose. Think: Breathable. Movable. But nowhere near baggy.
  • Torso: If you pull the shirt away from your body, it doesn’t move more than three inches.

Next, length. The polo must be long enough to tuck if necessary (see: in-law brunch at country club, impromptu Summer Friday meeting with client). Once it hits past your hip, though, steer clear. The polo should not be confused with the dress. Sleeve-wise, aim for halfway between your shoulder and elbow – slightly longer if you feel more comfortable.

And… there you have it. Easy, right? Permission to go back to BBQing: granted.

Summer Socialite: The Memorial Day Weekend Outfit Inspiration Board

Kiss the ground. Do a happy dance. Break out your white pants (if you haven’t already). The official kickoff to summer is finally here and I can’t pack my bags fast enough… mostly because I’m late for, well, everything, but also – the ferry/train/plane is calling me to the beach.

Truth be told, though, I’m a little rusty when it comes to filling my larger-than-needed suitcase appropriately for this weekend’s jam-packed warm-weather social calendar. That’s where this inspiration board comes in handy:
