A TYPICAL DAY, ACCORDING TO CANNES VET ELISE PLAKKE

Opening Wednesday, the film festival of all film festivals is upon us. Cannes, a seaside town in the French Riviera (talk about glam) will be taken over by the movies for twelve days of film screenings, panel discussion, and yes, international yacht parties lasting into the early morning hours. Which means those red-carpet, after-party celeb shots are headed to a pinboard near you.

TURNS OUT, WE SHOULD LISTEN TO MOM MORE OFTEN

In honor of Mother’s Day, we took to the Twittersphere and poked around Facebook to find out the best style advice our Members ever got from their Mothers. Check out some of our favorite responses (below) then head over to today’s Boutique, “The Things Our Mothers Gave Us” to see how we put their tips to good use.
“There is no such thing as being overdressed. Thx Mom!” – @finerfeelingskc
“Don’t buy a size smaller just because you’d rather be in that size. Buy the size that actually fits. You’ll look and feel better.” – @katyaevans
“Always wear a slip and clean underwear in case you get hit by a bus. Mom was more practical than fashionable and apparently afraid of buses!” – Terri D.
“Buy it because it flatters you, not just because it’s trendy.” – @brittneydeanne

Packing a Little Extra XOXO

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for significant others and star-crossed lovers – we’re all about showering everyone we know with TLC, especially the pint-sized set. For tomorrow, follow our five easy tips and throw a little extra L-O-V-E into the little one’s lunchbox.
1. Dig up a heart-shaped cookie cutter. It’s okay if it’s tiny – the smaller the heart, the more adorable the end result.
2. Using the cookie cutter, cut out two hearts from their favorite bread. Once you have enough cutouts, apply the PB+J or nutella (otherwise the going gets pretty messy).
3. For the face, use whatever you have around the kitchen. We stuck to Smarties, chocolate chips, conversation hearts, and Chiclets, but raisins, marshmallows, and ribbons of licorice will also do the trick.
4. Any red or pink fruit will work for a side. Think strawberries, raspberries, or even some juicy watermelon.
5. Up the cute factor with a cutout paper quote bubble filled in with a sugary-sweet and special Valentine’s Day message.
For more treats for the little ones, be sure to check out tomorrow’s Little Rue Boutique opening at 8PM ET.

SHOW YOUR LOVE ON OUR LOGIN PAGE

We admit it – we get a little carried away with Valentine’s Day. Some of us even see all of February as a giant love fest. So, for the first time ever, we’re turning our login page over to our Members with our #yoursruely contest on Facebook. We’ve been blown away by the love notes we’ve received from you so far – whether penned to your S/O, mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, or favorite pet (we’re not here to judge).
If you haven’t submitted yours yet, there’s still time. Just go to the #yoursruely tab on Facebook, leave your note, and we’ll select some to take over our login page on February 14. And, to seal the deal even further, check out the Boutiques for local vouchers that make very stylish gifts.
Now get going, Cupid.
Yours,
Rue(ly)
P.S. Our login page just isn’t big enough to hold all the love, so be on the lookout for more of your notes on our Facebook, blog, Pinterest, and Twitter pages, too.
THE VALENTINE’S DAY DINNERS WE’RE SWEET ON
Single or taken, Valentine’s Day always brings us one thing to look forward to: chocolate. So, in honor of what has become our sweet tooth’s favorite holiday, we crafted three menus — each bringing out the best in our beloved ingredient — to prove chocolate really can do no wrong.
