Paris Spring 2013 Fashion Week

Spring 2013 fashion season wrapped up with the Paris shows earlier this month. From larger-than-life bags at Chanel to Raf Simons’s Dior debut, here’s a look at what went down the runway – and what you’ll be dying to wear once the weather warms up.

Street Style: What We’re Seeing at NYFW

Can you believe it? Fashion Week has officially come to close (tear). But before we say our farewells, here’s one last street style trend to hold you until next season (February 9 can’t come soon enough).

From tribal to digital nature and watercolor-inspired, graphic prints made a major (not to mention bright) appearance outside the tents this season – proving neon hues can (thankfully) work in fall.

Read All About It: NYFW Headlines

As NYFW comes to a close, we pay tribute to the fun stories that have caught our attention over the past few days:

Even though DVF’s Google Glasses integration was somewhat panned, the finished video is pretty amazing (and has us ready for next year’s Fashion Week, already).

One brave editor from The Cut dared to rock a pair of platform roller sandals in the midst of the madness in Lincoln Center.

Ryan Lochte apparently doesn’t just sport Ralph Lauren when he’s representing the U.S.A. in the Olympics. Here he is looking sharp in Ralph Lauren Black Label at the designer’s runway show.

Sporadic fashion find or staged photo shoot? Controversy surrounding on the authenticity of street style is highlighted by The New York Times.

Betsey Johnson doing a perfect split on the runway during her 70th birthday really puts things in perspective. Girl’s still got it.

The Celebfest That Is New York Fashion Week

Sure, it’s been fun to look at the new spring fashions coming down the New York runways this week. But it’s been equally fun to look at all the celebrities sitting ringside. Or hanging around backstage. Or chilling out at events around town. Here are a few of the notables I saw out and about at the shows and the after parties. Honestly, it’s like the whole city was one big red carpet during NYFW. And that’s just the way I like it!

5-Minute Pow-Wow with Jay Manuel

From Stanley Tucci and Abigail Breslin to Edie Falco, the celebs came out in droves to Nanette Lepore’s Spring 2013 show – making for one star-studded front row. And while I’m a big fan of all the aforementioned (I may be borderline obsessed with Nurse Jackie), when the show ended I made a beeline for former America’s Next Top Model star, Jay Manuel. I mean, the man epitomizes style and I just had to hear his thoughts on all things Fashion Week.

What did you think of the Nanette Lepore show?
I loved it. I thought it was very easy, so wearable, so relatable to most women, but still so sexy.

What really stood out to you about the collection?
I loved seeing the mesh and lace combined – it’s definitely a hot trend for spring; bringing a little athletic edge to some very feminine lines. It was a really smart thing for her to do.

Did you have a favorite look?
I had quite a few. I snapped a bunch that I want to Tweet in a little bit, but I just loved the play on texture with her pieces.

What about the other shows – have you had a favorite so far?
It’s always really hard to choose, but I’ll give you two: Loved Monique Lhuillier’s show – I’m a huge fan of hers. Aside from the fact that she’s so talented, she’s just such a sweetheart – and that collection – I loved those mirrored feather prints. It was so sexy. And Ralph Rucci – it was just pure decadence, elegance. I mean, I think more people should be wearing him, honestly.

What do you think our Members should keep in mind for spring style?
When you think of spring, you think of floral prints, but everything is becoming a lot more detail-oriented. So, stick to smaller, fine prints. And as we saw here, today, bringing in that kind of athletic vibe – you know, the mesh – is important. Jill Scott showed this really cool white dress with this kind of graphic square lace, so it’s all about going with this more modern, modular kind of mindset.

Inside the Show: Nanette Lepore

On the softer side of the color palette, Nanette Lepore’s Spring 2013 Collection steered away from the high voltage neon trend we’ve been seeing this past spring and summer. Instead, in delicious pistachio and delectable key lime, her designs came in sugary hues sure to sweeten up any closet after a long, color-deprived winter.

As for silhouettes, Lepore stuck to her feminine roots, churning out perfectly-cut, A-line frocks that floated down the runway. Checks and plenty of floral prints also made an appearance, keeping with the fun and flirty approach to fashion the designer is known for.

For your own sneak peek at Nanette Lepore’s sweet spring confections, check out the video above – and take note of the star-studded front row.
