Beyoncé Stars in a September Issue (Surfbort Included)

The magazine world is really delivering this September. A star roster of supermodels covers Vogue, Rihanna looks wild on W, and now Beyoncé is dropping jaws with her CR Fashion Book spotlight. The glossy’s fifth issue comes out on September 4 – Queen Bey’s birthday, obviously – with a high-fashion spread devoted to the culture-dominating idol. And yes, it even includes a very chic Chanel surfboard. Excuse me, surfbort.

The front cover teases with a sequined mask covering Beyoncé’s face. On the opposite side she appears in all her glory, wearing a voluminous floral Yohji Yamamoto garment. Inside, the Carine Roitfeld–led magazine opted for a prose poem, written by the singer, instead of an article. The rest of the spread, shot by Pierre Debusschere, displays looks from Comme des Garçons, CÉLINE, and Saint Laurent.

Last month, critics debated whether or not Mrs. Carter is a fashion icon. I’m pretty sure this feature puts those questions to rest.

The 2014 Emmy Awards Best-Dressed List: Men’s Edition

Normally when it comes to red carpet fashion, all eyes are on the leading (and supporting!) ladies. Post–awards show, the Internet is abuzz with “What was she thinking?” and “Oh my, she really nailed it.” But now it’s time to pay the men of the Emmy Awards the respect they so deserve. In old-school formal outfits, a whole lot of blue, and some fresh takes on traditional tuxes, these guys dressed to impress. But who came out on top?

GQ cast its vote in a recent articleSeth Meyers in navy Valentino (pictured above) hit it out of the park – not only with his dapper tux and bow tie, but with his monologues too. Bryan Cranston in Ralph Lauren Black Label proved that when you channel Clark Gable, you win a boatload of Emmys.

And then there was Ryan Sweeting in a striking blue tuxedo jacket. “We really expected the night’s A-list TV actors to make bolder moves on the red carpet,” said Matt Sebra of GQ. “Not the tennis pro husband of that blond girl from the Big Bang Theory. But the actors didn’t, Sweeting did, and that’s why he makes the list.” (Hey Ryan, can I borrow your jacket? I promise I’ll give it back.)

Shoe Lovers, the Brooklyn Museum Has a Show for You

Many consider heels to be wearable works of art – including the Brooklyn Museum. On September 10, the New York institution will launch a 160-piece exhibit, Killer Heels, that explores the high heel’s long history and its enduring place in fashion.

The 2014 Emmy Awards Best-Dressed List

BY JACKIE NASSER, RUE LA LA FASHION DIRECTOR

Last night, the biggest stars of television partied in Los Angeles for the Emmys. Red was definitely the color of the night, with Claire Danes, January Jones, and Christina Hendricks all choosing the striking shade.

On stage, there were hilarious presenters (check out Jimmy Kimmel’s roasting of Matthew McConaughey here), a surprising kiss between Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston, and a Breaking Bad sweep. But the real winners of the night were on the red carpet. See who made my top-five list below.

Our Fashion Director Tackles the Black & White Trend

There’s no color combination more versatile than black and white. The proof? Just check out the three distinctive outfits our fashion director put together below.

alice + olivia

  1. Black-and-white looks don’t have to be basic. Paired with a simple bodysuit, these striped, sequined pants make for a fun party ensemble.
  2. With stripes, don’t always think in one direction. Try them every which way to make a flowy top (like the one above) surprisingly flattering.
  3. Give a nod to the trend’s mod roots with this houndstooth number. For an extra kick, add over-the-knee boots.

Our alice + olivia Boutique opened Tuesday, August 26, at 11AM ET.

By Nicole Andrew, Rue La La Fashion Editor

Fall is full of indulgences, from spiced lattes to luxe outfits. Linen and sundresses are exchanged for cashmere and leather – and with rich hues and textures, you’ll be embracing the chilly air in no time.

Celebrity Style to Watch: Victor Cruz

Football season is upon us, and the one player you need to keep an eye on is Victor Cruz. From topping every best-dressed list to salsa dancing his way to Super Bowl victory, this wide receiver has proven he has a style all his own. And we’re all for it.

600x400

To snag his signature look, try these simple steps:

  1. Grab a pair of dark-wash narrow-leg jeans (a Victor Cruz staple) or straight-leg pants in an earthy hue.
  2. Wear with a button-down shirt. Leave it untucked for a polished yet laid-back vibe. Then, unbutton the top button and cuff the sleeves loosely. No undershirt needed.
  3. Add a bold black-rubber timepiece. Effortless style? You can say that again.

Now practice Victor’s salsa moves and you’re good to go.

For more inspiration, head to our Leading Man: Get Victor Cruz’s Off-the-Field Look Boutique, opening Sunday, August 24, at 11AM ET.

Anna Wintour: The Ice (Bucket) Queen

You’ve seen the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral campaign raising money and awareness for ALS, on your feed and in the news. Nominees either post a video of themselves dumping ice on their heads or make a donation. The latest A-list participant? Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour.

This week, Anna was drenched in chilly water like a true champ, accepting a nomination from her daughter Bee Schaffer. And yes, she even kept her signature sunglasses on.

It looks like Anna will need to restyle her impeccable bob, stat. But for a good cause, we’re sure she won’t mind.
