Temperatures outside may be dropping, but don’t be too quick to turn up the heat. A bed layered to cozy perfection will curb your electric bill – and give you an excuse to catch some extra zzz’s.

cozy home bedding

  1. Work from the inside out. Flannel sheets will warm your core like a trusty sweater on a chilly day.
  2. Lay it on. Swap out your lightweight summer cover for a heavy comforter. A fill power of 600 works for most nights, while 700-plus is ideal for those who can never be too toasty.
  3. Soften up. A faux-fur pillow or two will add much-needed texture and provide comfort during those afternoon catnaps.
  4. Don’t forget your toes. Keep that instant chill away by laying a fluffy rug at your feet for when you (reluctantly) get out of bed.

Newsflash: It’s National Pumpkin Day. And beyond the jack-o’-lanterns and PSLs lies the promise of no-bake pumpkin spice bites. Yes, these little morsels of heaven are a real thing. So throw on an apron and turn up “Thriller” – it’s time to mix things up.

No-Bake Pumpkin Spice Balls

  • 2 cups of oat flour (you can substitute rolled oats, oat bran, or quick oats)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice (give our version a try)
  • ¼ cup nut butter
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup pumpkin puree
  • Almond milk

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and pumpkin spice together.
  2. In a separate, microwave-safe bowl, heat nut butter and honey until fully combined. Then add vanilla and mix.
  3. Combine the microwave blend with pumpkin puree. Then mix in dry ingredients. If batter is too crumbly, add almond milk. If it’s too runny, add flour.
  4. Roll mixture into bite-sized balls.
  5. Place them on a plate and refrigerate for at least ten minutes.

Serve them today to celebrate the holiday – or any other time you need to (pumpkin) spice up your life.

Fall soirees are in full swing. And the only thing more important than the food on the table? The décor around it, obviously. Luckily this DIY luminary is the ultimate ooh! project, and the key to added ambiance.

Mason Jar Luminary

  • Leaves
  • Mod Podge in matte finish
  • Art sponge
  • Mason jar
  • An autumn-scented candle

  1. Take a stroll outside to find some model leaves. Make sure they’re not torn or crunchy.
  2. Liberally apply Mod Podge with an art sponge to the outside of the jar.
  3. Stick your leaves in an artsy arrangement (overlapping is welcome).
  4. Coat with another layer of Mod Podge.
  5. Let dry for 24 hours.
  6. Put your candle inside the jar and light it.

Try multiples for a full-on festive vibe. If you’re wondering how much is too much, the limit does not exist.

Stocking up on candy corn is pretty much a rite of passage in October. From snacks to (edible) décor, it’s fall’s most versatile sweet. Check out these three festive uses for the tiny treat.

Candy Corn PopcornSweet & Salty Popcorn
What happens when you mix white almond bark, popcorn, and this multicolored snack? The Halloween version of trail mix. Dish it out at a spooky soiree or make it your date to that edge-of-your-seat flick.

Candy Corn GarlandSugary Garland
Some fishing line and a few bags of candy corn are all you need to deck out your space for the season. Don’t worry, we won’t tell if you sneak a few pieces off the string.

Candy Corn PumpkinPumpkins with a Twist
Add a three-dimensional, ombré touch to your jack-o’-lantern. And if meticulously deseeding a pumpkin isn’t your thing, just use black paint in place of carving.

We recommend keeping an extra bag on hand in case you eat all the candy of mishaps.

Even if it’s not quite chilly enough for a scarf and sweater, there’s something so satisfying about swapping out summer décor for pinecones and pumpkins. And what better place to start than your front door? Below, we break down four fall-ready ways to kick your porch game up a notch.

fall pumpkin decorations When in Doubt, Go for Pumpkins
It’s not autumn until the pumpkins are on display. Place a few – or several – around your doorstep for a welcoming vibeStick with orange for a traditional feeling, or opt for white and green versions to create a cool, modern look.

The no-fail way to radiate fall vibes: a warm-hued wreath, complete with leaves, berries, and pinecones. Or, if you’re more into a subtle look, try a neutral approach with a sophisticated, uniform color scheme.

Those spring planters you thought you’d put away? Keep ’em out and pack them with a bounty of gourds, multicolored mini pumpkins, and autumn flowers (like mums).

Take advantage of shorter days with an array of glowing (and functional!) lanterns leading up to your doorstep. While lightbulbs work just fine, candlelight creates a cozy atmosphere.

We’ve all been there. With almost no time before a big event, you realize your dress is a crumpled disaster. Stay. Calm. These three tricks will salvage your outfit – sans iron.

Make a Wrinkle-Release Spray to Avoid Ironing ClothesDIY Wrinkle-Release Spray
Combine one teaspoon conditioner with one tablespoon white vinegar and two cups water. Funnel into a bottle, and voilà! You’ve got yourself an instant wrinkle-release spray. Just spritz on trouble spots, then pull fabric taut until it’s smooth.

No steamer? Don’t sweat it. Position a hot teakettle about a foot away from your garment and use the steam to remove any creases.

Hair Dryer
Once you’ve finished taming your tresses, keep your hair dryer on hand. Dampen the crinkled spots on your clothing, then hit them with low heat. Avoid singed threads by holding the dryer at least 2 inches back.

Now you can be fashionably late on purpose.

Bookworms, rejoice! Along with pumpkin-spice everything, this season comes with a slew of new fiction. So get ready to update your Goodreads account and take a peek at our top picks below.

Curling Up with Fall's Must-Read Books

The Girl in the Spider’s Web: A Lisbeth Salander Novel
Lisbeth Salander is back, and if we know her, it’s with a vengeance. Swedish novelist David Lagercrantz picked up where Stieg Larsson left off in this Millennium-series follow-up, which hit shelves September 1. The book follows Lisbeth as she takes on tech spies and the NSA. (We wouldn’t mess with her – just sayin’.)

Admit it. You watch Pretty Little Liars, too. Well Shay Mitchell, a.k.a. Emily Fields, cowrote this novel with her real-life BFF, Michaela Blaney. Debuting October 6, the story is all about three 20-somethings taking on the world together. So basically, it’s Taylor Swift‘s Instagram in book form.

Oh the Moon: Stories from the Tortured Mind of Charlyne Yi
Ever read Shel Silverstein? This is kind of like that, only funnier. Comedian Charlyne Yi penned and illustrated this whimsical collection of strange short stories, each of which is connected by an overarching theme of love and its many challenges. Get your hands on a copy November 3.

Now that you’ve revamped your fall reading list, all you need is a cozy nook – and seasonal latte.

Its whole philosophy centers on programs and products that help guests sleep well, eat well, move well, feel well, work well, and play well. Westin Hotels & Resorts bed with pillowsSleep Well
Nothing restores your mind and body more than sleeping. According to the National Sleep Foundation, these are three of the simplest ways to achieve a better rest:

  1. Stick to a schedule.
  2. Establish a relaxing bedtime ritual.
  3. Sleep on a plush mattress (a.k.a. The Heavenly® Bed).

Westin White Tea Aloe bath products on platterFeel Well
This one is going to be difficult to turn down. All you have to do is unwind. So sink into a warm bath and light a signature White Tea Aloe candle. While you’re there, practice abdominal breathing. Using this technique for only 20 minutes each day will reduce anxiety and stress. Pro tip: A cozy shawl-collar robe is the perfect end to a tranquil soak.

Take steps toward an improved you. Our Westin Store Boutique opened Tuesday, September 1, at 3PM ET.
