Now that arctic freezes are a distant memory, all we can think about is getting outside and grilling. But an alfresco meal just isn’t complete without the right wine pairing. So we consulted Jennifer Ingellis, a sommelier over at Global Wine Cellars, for advice. Here, the 2012 Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year shares three must-try wines and what to serve with them.

Global Wine Cellars Grill Pairings

1. Peñalolén Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Chile
Serve: Juicy herb-marinated steaks – as rare as you can handle – or protein-rich veggies like mushrooms, eggplant, or roasted tomatoes. This dark red’s plum and cherry flavors play well with meaty options.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be BFFs with Rihanna, the next best thing is here – she’s on Snapchat.

Posting from the username “Rihanna,” the self-proclaimed bad gal is giving us a behind-the-scenes look at her life. But don’t expect carefully posed glamour shots or editorial sneak peeks, like on her Instagram. This is a glimpse of the real Rihanna, or “Rob” (short for her first name Robyn), as her snap-featured friends often call her. Sure, it’s hard to forget she’s a celebrity when she posts videos of Katy Perry kicking it VIP at Coachella. But we kind of love knowing even Rihanna has to kill bugs in hotel rooms and shop at convenience stores.

Other celebs, like Kendall Jenner and Ryan Seacrest, were early adopters of the oh-so-addicting social media platform. However, Rihanna appears to be crushing the competition – per usual.

Whether you revel in it or loathe it, spring cleaning is most likely on your to-do list. To tackle everything from icky grime to those sources of suspicious scents, we’ve scouted all-natural DIY solutions that will get your home in tip-top shape for the season. This weekend, draw your attention to an oft-neglected corner of the kitchen: it’s time to freshen up the garbage disposal.

Garbage-Disposal Refresher

Ingredients
White vinegar
Citrus peels (whichever scent you favor: orange, lemon, lime)
Muffin tin or ice-cube tray

Directions
Put strips of your citrus peels into the muffin tin or ice-cube tray, fill with vinegar, and freeze. Once frozen solid, pop them out and transfer to a lidded container in your freezer. To use, drop a cube in the disposal and turn it on. The ice chopping will keep blades sharp, while the peels release a fresh scent.

Whether you revel in it or loathe it, spring cleaning is most likely on your to-do list. To tackle everything from icky grime to those sources of suspicious scents, we’ve scouted all-natural DIY solutions that will get your home in tip-top shape for the season. Next up? Make your own dry carpet cleaner.

DIY Carpet Cleaner

Ingredients

2 cups baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup cornmeal
4 bay leaves
1 tablespoon whole cloves
Sprinkle-top container (for example, one used for sugar)

Directions

  1. Add ingredients to a blender and pulse on low until the mixture has an even consistency. Baking soda freshens and breaks down dirt, while bay leaves and cloves offer the double whammy of a fragrance boost with antibacterial properties.
  2. Pour the cleaner into the sprinkle-top container. Shake generously over carpet and let sit for two hours or even overnight.
  3. Vacuum up the powder. You’re done.

Let’s go back for a second. Or over a hundred years back, actually, to 1903, when Thomas Lee was vacationing in the Adirondacks of Westport, New York. Thomas needed chairs for his summer home, so he chose to design some himself with 11 boards of wood. After countless comfort and durability tests (with family members rating his efforts) the Adirondack chair was born.
