While making the rounds in NYC last week, Kate Middleton appeared polished per usual. But last night in East London she was spotted looking, well, almost like one of us. The ground-breaking garment she wore? A sweatshirt.

En route to work with a group of Beaver Scouts, the Duchess wore a black zip-up hoodie, J Brand jeans, and tall black boots. She still looked every bit the beauty queen, even without the couture threads we’re used to seeing.

A princess getting cozy in loungewear? That’s a trend every commoner can get behind.

For the fashionistas on your list, nothing short of stylish will do. Think outside the gift box to ensure that yours is the present they reach for first. Read on for wrapping tips so Instagram-friendly, they won’t even mind if the package is empty.

Holiday Wrapping Tips

Belt It Up
Instead of using ribbon, accent a wrapped package with an on-trend belt, which also doubles as a bonus gift. Textiles like grosgrain and canvas are easiest to work with. For a truly standout wrap job (and a healthy dose of contrast), go for one with buttery leather accents and a buckle for a metallic touch.

Bundle It with a Scarf
Save paper and wrap a box in a super-soft scarf instead. Tuck a sprig of holly or a decorative branch of pinecones into the folds and secure with a pin. Guaranteed to wow (and warm).

For a tasteful play on texture and dimension, tie your gift with a bow and fasten it with a brooch. Opt for one in a richly patterned fabric like we did, or for a vintage-lover, channel old-school elegance with a glittering, jewelry-inspired piece.

It may be rooted in tradition, but lately Burberry has pushed the envelope. Earlier this fall, the British powerhouse paired up Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne for the first time ever in its My Burberry fragrance campaign. For Spring 2015, the label one-upped itself with another supermodel duo: Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn.

When it comes to winter style, what’s on the outside does count. So rather than covering up your outfit, opt for a statement coat that completes it. Experiment with texture, color, or shape (perhaps even all three) for a scene-stealing look. Then choose a color palette and subtle accessories to make an out-there topper wearable every day.

Most Coveted

  1. Lela Rose Sapphire Feather-Embellished Coat. A classically tailored wool coat is made special with cobalt-blue feather embellishments and cropped sleeves.
  2. Anya Hindmarch “Deconstructed Bathurst” Leather Satchel. Interchangeable handles and a bold hue make this oversized satchel a worthy investment.
  3. GURHAN 24k Plated Kyanite Studs. Delicate gold gemstone studs are subtle enough to wear daily and offer a nice alternative to diamond studs.
  4. Alexander McQueen Women’s 4197/S Sunglasses. Butterfly-shaped frames with etched details are a must-have mix of retro and modern.

Holiday Style Glam Night

“Going to a dressy event like a holiday show doesn’t mean you have to look serious. Keep things festive and fun by pairing a sparkly clutch and heels with a feather skirt. Add a swipe of lipstick and you’re off.” – Caroline M., Stylist

1. Pretty in pink, Emma Roberts took her front-row seat at the first ever Valentino haute couture show in New York City. The actress channeled the 60s in a long-sleeved Valentino number, complete with a floral collar and a Twiggy-inspired hairdo.

2. Naomie Harris showcased one of our favorite Spring 2015 trends, turning up to the photocall for the latest James Bond film, Spectre, in a striped Altuzarra dress.

3. Sienna Miller stepped out to promote American Sniper in a Miu Miu look that teamed a cherry-red crop top with a high-waisted pencil skirt and a blush topper – the perfect mix of sophisticated and sweet.

Has the annual company party snuck up on you? Don’t panic. Wherever you and your colleagues are celebrating, Rue La La stylist Caroline M. whipped up an easy look that’s a whole lot of fun yet still completely professional. Recreate it and prepare to impress the boss.

Office Holiday Party

Black may not be the expected color choice for a holiday outfit, but it’s always my go-to. Add red accessories and metallic accents to up the festive factor. The finishing touch? A faux-fur vest that brings the glamour while keeping you cozy in the cold December weather. ” – Caroline M., Stylist

After more than 20 seasons, America’s Next Top Model just crowned its first male winner: former NFL wide receiver Keith Carlos. He can now add the victory (and the Tyra-bestowed nickname “Manaconda”) to his modeling résumé.

Not only is Keith the first winner with the, ahem, whole package, but he’s also the oldest winner at age 26 (save for Lisa D’Amato during the All-Stars version). And did I mention he was competing in honor of his late father? I don’t know about you, but I’m okay with letting the ladies sit out from the winner’s circle this season.

Versace has named Madonna, notorious icon of the 80s, 90s, and well, the indefinite future, its spokesperson for the fourth time. Madonna replaces last year’s face (and rumored rival) Lady Gaga in next spring’s campaign: a 12-page spread where she appears ageless, wild, and every bit in step with her younger self.

This latest collaboration between the superstar and the luxury fashion house will appear in Vanity Fair and the American, French, and Italian editions of Vogue. Of Madonna’s persona, Donatella Versace tells the New York Times, “She is her own woman, a role model who shows other women how we can do what we want, and get what we want, and do so for all of our lives, with no compromise.”

Madonna’s triumphant return marks 10 years since her last partnership with Versace. For the woman who literally taught us how to vogue, it’s only right that she revisit the pages to remind us how it’s done.
