High-Heel Lovers, Foot Surgery is the New Facelift

Chin implants and G-spot injections have officially become old news. The new beauty fad? Plastic surgery on your feet. And no, I’m not talking bunion surgery à la Victoria Beckham. This latest craze is more on the level of traditional foot binding – except it’s elective. I’m talking toe reshaping and fat injections into the footpad.

Elective Foot Surgery for Shoes

The latter procedure, I could understand. Decades of squeezing my size-11 dinosaur feet into size-10 heels (albeit, super fabulous heels) hasn’t exactly made me want to run marathons. And I’m only 25. If you’re in pain? Fine. Go for it. If you’re craving a toe slope that descends like the bars of a handcrafted xylophone, it may be time for a reality check.

Another Big Win for Lupita: The Actress Scores PEOPLE’s “Most Beautiful”

With an Oscar, Miu Miu and Lancôme partnerships, and the unwavering admiration of the world’s fashion elite in the bag, Lupita Nyong’o has had a banner year. And today, it got even better as the 31-year-old Kenyan-Mexican actress was awarded the top spot on PEOPLE magazine’s annual “Most Beautiful” list.

Nyong’o first won hearts around the world as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, and she hasn’t stopped since. That’s thanks, in large part, to her unique brand of humility (who could forget her “Dreams do come true” speech at the Academy Awards?), but also her chameleon-like ability to stun in everything from Givenchy to Giambattista Valli. A megawatt star from humble beginnings whose haute couture is outshone only by her heart? That’s just, well, beautiful.

Head over to people.com to read more and to see who else made the list.

Natural Beauty: ELLE Editors Across the Globe Share Their Tips

The secret to natural beauty? According to ELLE editors worldwide, it’s all about incorporating eco-friendly ingredients into your beauty routine. So, this Earth Day, celebrate the environment – and yourself – by trying some of these home-grown tips.

Natural Beauty Tips

Wash with Rose Water
Rose water [is our secret] for keeping the face clean and moisturized,” says  Maria Georgieva, editor in chief of ELLE Bulgaria. Why? Bulgaria’s climate is very mild – perfect for growing roses. In fact, it produces 85% of the world’s rose oil. So, by no surprise, it’s also home to the world’s softest skin.

Use Olive Oil All Over
“There isn’t anything that olive oil can’t cure,” says Mihaela Batinić, beauty editor of  ELLE Croatia. “We use it all over in our beauty regimes – when at the beach, we put it on our skin, face, and hair.” That’s right, few things are as versatile – and as culturally celebrated – as olive oil. Mediterraneans credit their longevity to healthy doses of this liquid gold.

Soothe Skin with Sandalwood
“We get sandalwood in powder form. You mix this with any liquid – water, milk, yogurt, or rose water – for a quick cooling mask,” Ridhima Sapre, assistant beauty editor of ELLE India, reveals.

Yahoo Steps Up Its Beauty Game with Bobbi Brown

In recent months, Yahoo! has been making headlines with its heavy-hitting hires (in November, the company announced Katie Couric as its global anchor). And now, it’s at it again with its newest all-star addition of Bobbi Brown as beauty editor in chief.

Brown announced the news on her blog Wednesday, saying, “As EIC, I’ll work to curate smart, strong content that will teach women how to be their best selves.” With eight beauty books, an obsession-worthy product line, and years of experience, I personally can’t think of a better fit for the job. Now, here’s hoping she can show us how to tackle that whole blue-lipstick trend.

Spring Is Here: Get Glowy (Sans Sun) with Clarins

As soon as the seasons change, so does my skincare regimen. Sure, I slather on the SPF-infused moisturizer year-round, but now that it’s spring, I’m looking to liven up my pale Northeast complexion – without any damaging rays of sun. Cue Clarins to the beauty rescue.

I spoke with one of the brand’s insiders, who gave me the scoop on its new Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster. Which, as it happens, is what super-chic celebrity stylist Sophie Pera uses to maintain her enviably bronzed complexion. I dare you to tell me you’re not preemptively obsessed after watching the video below.

Soft Skin with a Hard Edge: Kiehl’s New Black Nail Polish

With its honest-to-goodness products, apothecary-style retail stores, and clinically clean packaging, Kiehl’s has long been loved for its fuss-free approach to skincare. And that’s exactly why I was surprised – and intrigued – to learn that the company will break into the beauty business in July with the release of a glossy black nail polish.

Black Nail Polish

My first thought: Really? If a company like Kiehl’s, which has found huge success in a singular sector, is rolling out a basic beauty product like nail polish, it must be special. Turns out, it is. Proceeds from the polish’s sales will benefit AmfAR in the organization’s fight against AIDS.

My second thought: But, black? Yes, and it makes sense. Legions of Kiehl’s fans already know that the company’s founding family members had a soft spot for motorcycles, a theme seen in its stores’ décor and in LifeRide, a nine-day motorcycle ride that raises funds for amfAR. So, biker-approved black it is. The polish will begin shipping in July, just as the fourth-annual LifeRide hits the road in Seattle.

Slather on the Saffron: YSL Launches a Decadent New Skin Cream

Our whole lives, we’ve been taught that the fast track to good health and wellness is eating our fruits and veggies. But, wearing our spices? When it comes to beauty, yes, says YSL, which has launched a decadent new skin cream packed with precious saffron.

Or Rouge

The new cream, called “Or Rouge” (that’s French for “Red Gold”), doesn’t actually derive its beautifying goodness from the supermarket-spice-aisle form of saffron. Instead, Or Rouge is made with saffron in its next-to-impossible-to-get natural form, which comes from a crocus that blooms only in Morocco. In the fall. So precious is this saffron that a single pot of Or Rouge will set you back $400. But for the restorative benefits of this North African bloom, which include skin renewal, cellular turnover, firming, and reduction of dark spots, discoloration, and redness, it seems a fair price to pay.
