Ditch the Yoga Pants & Jet-Set Like a Celeb

Is there anything more torturous than the days leading up to a three-day holiday weekend? So close, yet so far away. To pass the time, this writer finds herself browsing celebrity rags in an attempt to ignite some sort of inspirational flame within. Nope, nothing. That is, until an article from Lucky magazine touting “50 of the Chicest Celebrity Airport Outfits Ever” pops up. Since most of the country will be participating in some form of travel this weekend, why not casually try one of the celeb-approved ensembles along the way?

Travel in Style, Like A Celeb

They make it look so easy. Boyfriend jeans? Check. Fedora and pointy-toe flats? Check. “If celebrities are good at one thing, it’s being able to emerge off their first-class flight looking largely flawless, with nary a hair out of place nor a speck of oil clogging their pores,” writes Maura Brannigan. “Whether clad in a tracksuit or stilettos, this crop of celebrities has the whole airport-style thing down to a science.”

That they do. So I guess I’ll be leaving my favorite (read: tattered) yoga pants at home this trip.

Model Unit: See Inside Karlie Kloss’s NYC Townhouse

When it comes to the places models call home, visions of cramped, dingy Manhattan apartments often come to mind. But for 21-year-old supermodel Karlie Kloss, those days are long gone. The St. Louis–born stunner recently welcomed The Coveteur and Vogue inside her Nate Berkus–designed West Village townhouse, and well, it is just as chic as you’d expect the home of the world’s top model to be.

Berkus told Vogue he wanted to design a space that reflected Kloss’s personal style, as well as her age. The resulting aesthetic includes a mix of high- and low-end products, much like Kloss’s own wardrobe. Among my favorite features are the entryway’s basketweave-patterned marble floor, playful wallpaper, and lots of gold-accented, glass-topped furniture. One of the more unexpected features of Kloss’s hideaway? A “football-watching room” where the catwalk queen logs hours watching the Rams play – a nod to the city she first called home.

Head over to Vogue and The Coveteur for interviews with Berkus and Kloss and to see more photos.

The Olsen Twins’ Foray Into Furnishings: The Row Opens in L.A.

Recent news that The Row would, ten years after its founding, open its first brick-and-mortar store might be exciting enough for fans of the Olsen twins’ high-end fashion label. But for anyone whose pulse picks up at the thought of home design, it gets even better: In addition to cashmere jackets and black silk evening pieces, patrons can purchase the ultra-sleek furniture and décor found throughout the store, too.

To update and outfit their modern Los Angeles shop, a space that once housed a Sally Hershberger at John Frieda salon, the famously fashion-forward sisters worked with architect David Montalba and designer Courtney Applebaum and sourced furniture and antiques from esteemed local vendors, including Blackman Cruz and Thomas Hayes Gallery. If you get there fast enough, a Jean Prouvé dining table, a Fortuny floor lamp, Poul Kjærholm coffee tables, and Paul McCobb woven leather chairs are a few of the super-chic pieces you could scoop up for your own abode. Now that’s what I call full-service shopping at its finest.

Living Art: Hedi Slimane Shoots Angelina Jolie for ELLE

French fashion designer Hedi Slimane might be most famous for his work that parades down runways, but Saint Laurent‘s creative director is also an avid and established photographer. And with the arrival of ELLE‘s June issue, we’ll get to see one of his most beautiful shoots – and subjects: Angelina Jolie.

Slimane shot the Maleficent star for a 16-page editorial portfolio, throughout which Jolie is styled in tailored, and often menswear-inspired, Saint Laurent looks. Stunning as they promise to be, Slimane’s photos aren’t the only reason we’re eager to crack open the issue when it arrives in our mailbox. The famously private Jolie is said to have spoken candidly to ELLE‘s deputy editor, Maggie Bullock, about life with her six growing kids, her humanitarian work, and even how she and partner Brad Pitt keep their romance revved up in the midst of it all. Slimane’s black-and-white portraits are an alluring depiction of a woman whose life is anything but.

Another Big Win for Lupita: The Actress Scores PEOPLE’s “Most Beautiful”

With an Oscar, Miu Miu and Lancôme partnerships, and the unwavering admiration of the world’s fashion elite in the bag, Lupita Nyong’o has had a banner year. And today, it got even better as the 31-year-old Kenyan-Mexican actress was awarded the top spot on PEOPLE magazine’s annual “Most Beautiful” list.

Nyong’o first won hearts around the world as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, and she hasn’t stopped since. That’s thanks, in large part, to her unique brand of humility (who could forget her “Dreams do come true” speech at the Academy Awards?), but also her chameleon-like ability to stun in everything from Givenchy to Giambattista Valli. A megawatt star from humble beginnings whose haute couture is outshone only by her heart? That’s just, well, beautiful.

Head over to people.com to read more and to see who else made the list.

Address Envy: A Peek Inside Sarah Jessica Parker’s NYC Brownstone

Having reached fashion-icon status through her role as Carrie Bradshaw, it would be easy to assume that Sarah Jessica Parker’s real-life living space is a trove of high-fashion home décor. But like the star herself – who’s often snapped on the city’s streets in laid-back jeans and parkas – it turns out her West Village brownstone is actually a tasteful haven of lived-in loveliness.

How do we know? Parker’s brownstone serves as the backdrop for a high-speed Q&A conducted by vogue.com. And although the home isn’t the video’s main focus, it gives us a peek inside the private star’s space and leaves us wanting more. Which, when it comes to SJP, is just what we’d expect.

Nearly Beloved: Are Fake Engagement Rings Really a Thing?

Lately, quite a few celebs have been spotted slipping a little bling on their left ring finger. Each time, it raises the question: new trend, or truly betrothed?

On Fake Engagement Rings
Image via ELLE.com

Now, when it comes to celebrities, it’s usually never a question of whether the diamond is real or not (because, let’s face it, it probably is), but rather, whether or not it’s a publicity stunt. Take Taylor Swift, for example. She recently rocked a pink number on that finger – but I truly believe it was because it just went with her outfit. As for Katy Perry? I’m calling it an attention grab.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m a huge fan of statement jewelry. I have a collection that even Iris Apfel would envy. But when it comes to putting a ring on it, I’m inclined to wait until someone does it for me. Until then, I’ll just enjoy the headlines.

Check out ELLE.com to see all the celebs sporting these rings.

Justin Timberlake’s Personal Stylist? Tom Ford. Jealous.

It’s no secret that Justin Timberlake is a dreamboat (even in his frosted-blond *NSYNC days). But one thing that’s helping him keep his dapper status? The Tom Ford. Not only has the sought-after designer been dressing JT since 2011, but he has now created 600 exclusive pieces for the superstar’s 20/20 Experience World Tour. I’m talking eight original outfits for Timberlake, plus totally unique looks for his backup dancers and band. Where can I sign up?

Classic or Trying Too Hard? Michelle Pfeiffer in Dolce & Gabbana

There’s no denying it: Michelle Pfeiffer is stunning. Particularly when the 55-year-old actress is dressed in a striking Dolce & Gabbana ballerina dress. Though her outfit choice at last night’s premiere of The Family could have garnered the opposite reaction (trying too hard, not dressing for her age, blah blah blah), I’m standing firm that she looked 100% classic.

Make Like a Celebrity: Six A-Lister-Inspired Denim Trends to Try This Season

Relaxed and distressed. Dark and skinny. From fits to washes, there’s always a slew of new jean styles to choose from each season. So how do you pick which ones make it into your wardrobe rotation? Easy – mimic what all the celebrities are wearing. Hey, there’s a reason they’re photographed so often, right? Below, our picks for the celebrity styles you should totally follow.

BLG_celeb_denim_olivia

Dark Skinny
If ever there was a fall staple, dark skinny jeans would be it. Pair them with a chunky knit – be it a sweater or slouchy beanie like Emma Stone – and you’re the picture of autumn.

Distressed
It’s pretty much a fact: Distressing on jeans gives any outfit instant edge. Wear the look with ankle booties, like the always-stylish Rachel Bilson, and boom – total cool-girl cred.

Printed
For fall, step away from florals and opt instead for more edgy prints like colored leopard spots (seen on the likes of Miranda Kerr). Just keep the rest of your outfit polished. In other words: No red stilettos, please.

Colored
While pastel pants may be reserved for summer and spring, rich colors like maroon (thank you, Olivia Palermo) and army green are still very much on-trend for the fall season. Go ahead, breathe a sigh of relief.

Coated
Not ready to wear leather just yet? It’s okay, you’ll get there. But in the meantime, make like Gwen Stefani and rock a pair of wax-coated jeans. The best part? They’re easier than leather to get on and off.

70s-Inspired
Just because you had to put your gladiator sandals and maxi dresses away for the winter doesn’t mean you can’t still rock that whole hippie-chic look. Just take it from Kate Moss. Simply opt for wide flare-leg, light-wash jeans and a loose-fitting tee. See? Still totally flower child–esque.
