Pull Off the Look: A Graphic Tee & Blazer

If chocolate-covered bacon taught us anything, it’s that unexpected combos can really hit it out of the park. So, this month, pull two items from your closet that you’d never dare wear together – your precisely tailored blazer and your worn-in graphic tee – then, dare. And watch as everyone else follows suit.

Here’s how to do it right.

How to Pair a Blazer with a Graphic Tee

On top: Pick a tee with a solid base color and strong graphic. (Leave it untucked.) Then add a blazer in black, navy, or grey.

On bottom: Your best bet? Denim. Go for a fail-safe dark-blue wash or wear black narrow-leg jeans for a bit of rock ‘n’ roll edge.

On your feet: Play it cool in trendy sneakers. And if you want to up the level of polish, finish the look with leather or suede chukkas.

Want to shop the look? Our Graphic Tees & Blazers: Wear Them Together Boutique opens Tuesday, April 1 at 11AM ET.

Celebrity Style to Watch: Chris Evans

It appears that Captain America’s got style. Massachusetts-born Chris Evans, who recently announced that he’d be calling it quits on acting in lieu of a directing career, has that casual-cool thing down pat. Easy plaid and chambray atop the darkest of denim. Henleys edged up with leather jackets. Suits, when the occasion requires them, sexified with a bit of scruff.

Get Chris Evans' Style

To cop one of his signature looks, follow these few simple steps:

  1. Start with the easiest of shirts – a graphic tee or laid-back button-front (cuffed, to expose superhero forearms).
  2. Add relaxed, not skinny, pants. As Evans once told InStyle: ”I’ve got ridiculously thin legs, so I hate skinny jeans. My Paper Denim & Cloth jeans give me a little extra bag in the butt – as if I might actually have one.”
  3. Finish with a broken-in moto jacket or hoodie, unzipped. Want to take the look a step further? Try it in camo.

Extra inspiration, right this way. Our Leading Man: Get Chris Evans’s Casual-Cool Look Boutique opens Sunday, March 30, at 11AM ET.

Return of the Pleats? DETAILS Magazine Thinks So

In my opinion, there are a few “classic” items that have seen better days. Take the pleated pant, for instance. Once a star of the men’s wardrobe (specifically suiting or khakis in the 80s), it’s a look that’s been on the back burner for years. Well, it appears DETAILS is eager to bring it back.

Are Pleats Back for Men?

Image via details.com

In their video series “The New Classics,” the DETAILS editors attempt to debunk some style no-nos by introducing ways to incorporate different silhouettes into your closet. The first in the series is the pleated pant. I applaud the effort to offer advice on sporting new trends or classic styles, but I’m a little afraid of seeing masses of pleated khaki in the future. So, guys, I recommend proceeding cautiously with this look.

Meet the Founder: Jerome Dahan of Citizens of Humanity

After over 35 years in the business, Parisian-born designer Jerome Dahan has earned his place in premium denim history. But just how did he get there? Take a peek below.

Jerome Dahan

1977: At the age of 15, Jerome Dahan moves from Paris to Montreal, where he designs his first pair of jeans while working in a denim shop.
1981: Jerome follows his father to Los Angeles, where the two work on a shirt line.
1981 – 1984: Partnering with his father, he launches his first line, Oxygen, and pioneers the acid-wash jean style.
1986 – 1989: Jerome leaves Oxygen to work for the Marciano brothers (of GUESS) and they form another company called Circa.
1990 – 1991: He decides to leave Circa to create A Gold E jeans with Ron Herman.
1991 – 1999: After a few short stints at other companies, the Parisian designer takes a position with Lucky Brand that lasts for nine years.
1999 – 2003: After 20 years of experience in the business, Jerome creates 7 For All Mankind (a name he gets from his favorite movie, Armageddon), a more refined version of Lucky Brand.
2003 – Present: Both Jerome and his partner leave 7 For All Mankind to start a new denim giant, Citizens of Humanity, which is an instant success. This label, too, gets its name from Armageddon.

Our Citizens of Humanity Boutique opens on Friday, March 28, at 11AM ET.

Trend Report: Crochet Clothing

It’s official. Crochet clothing is going to be big this spring – but unlike in past seasons, it’s meant to be more refined than boho-looking. So, to make sure we’re pulling off the 70s-inspired trend in a polished way, we turned to our fashion director, Jackie, for a few tips.

Steve Madden & Brian Atwood: A Match Made in Shoe Heaven

A good shoe rack should always have two things: a pair of classic wear-everywhere heels and a much-deserved designer splurge. So this latest collaboration between Steve Madden, the go-to brand for high heels, and luxe shoe label Brian Atwood is a total best-of-both-worlds scenario.

Best Friends Fur-Ever: Designers and Their Pet Doppelgängers

People who resemble their pets – it’s an interesting phenomenon that I still haven’t quite figured out. But when the owner is a household name in fashion and Fido shares his or her impeccable style, I’m easily obsessed.

Karl and His Cat

You see, these fashionable duos may not be the identical types that often go viral online, but they do share the same love of style and the finer things in life. For example, Donatella Versace’s terrier is treated to daily deep-conditioning treatments, while Carolina Herrera’s pooch was immortalized in a print for her line back in 2012.

But is all that champagne and caviar kibble all it’s cracked up to be? So far, the BFFs (best furry friends) have yet to comment. Personally, if Karl Lagerfeld ever asked me to jump, I’d probably do one of two things: instinctively say “how high,” or just roll over and die.

Check out The Coveteur to see all of fashion’s furry friends.
