Let’s Talk NYFW: 5 Minutes with The Man Repeller
Confession: I have a major girl crush on The Man Repeller, Leandra Medine. Her quick-witted fashion blog might as well be my home page. So when I ran into her at Wes Gordon’s S/S 2014 runway show yesterday, you can bet I said hi. Here, we talk all things Fashion Week.
Rue La La: You’ve been to quite a few shows this week – what’s been your favorite?
The Man Repeller: I loved Altuzarra and Phillip Lim. I enjoyed Thom Browne, too, even though I’m sure some people might disagree.
RLL: Let’s talk accessories. Which extras have stood out to you on the runways?
TMR: The fabric chokers at the Creatures of the Wind. There have actually been a lot of chokers and I love the idea of neckerchiefs.
RLL: If you ask us, half the draw of Fashion Week is the street style. What have you been seeing outside the tents this year?
TMR: I’ve been noticing a lot of girls wearing messenger-style purses but raised really high, like sitting right on their rib. I like that a lot.
RLL: We’ve seen a lot more flats this year than heels – what gives?
TMR: I think fashion is a lot more about comfort and flat shoes right now, so that seems like a really natural progression. I’m very into flared legs this season, so I’ve been in heels. But I guess I’d probably be wearing Birkenstocks if I weren’t…
RLL: Sure, we’re previewing the spring collections. But what’s one thing no woman should be without this fall?
TMR: A pair of white sneakers. [Editor's note: You mean not Birkenstocks?]
